Title: EC Matthews
Post by: GGGG on September 20, 2012, 06:10:16 PM
Apparently Iowa is no longer recruiting him according to Evan Daniels...

Did he take his visit to MU yet? I'm not really familiar with his recruitment, does MU have a legit shot?

Interesting. I believe Iowa was considered the leader.

Apparently they are taking another commit.  Not sure it has anything to do with MU, but Matthews had his official to Iowa about 10 days ago followed by an in-home.  Maybe they cut bait.

And Matthews was slated for an unofficial here but never took it.  I don't think that means much since he can still take an official visit.

This is the most encouraging recruiting news for MU since Jameel McKay's commitment, IMHO.

Do not need him. Hold the scholy to spring.

I agree.  Remember all the big name transfers MU was mentioned with last spring???  I think MU can land better quality after the season.

What?  You went all nuts when Kameron Williams (#20 SG on Scout) went off the board..."OH crap! ANOTHER ONE LOSSED"

But we don't need the #16 rated SG???

EC is a southpaw and we all know how the Buzzer likes lefties.

I would always hold one offer to spring, they have 13 kids already for 2013, a transfer big that can start in 2014 is the way to go.  The top kids want to play right away, I see no openings
right now the following year.  As good as Burton looks, he might have trouble getting minutes.  For Duane Wilson, he sees a chance to start right away.  I can see why these players are
looking at different schools.  Now that big kid, would be the only one I would be looking at.  Patterson does not look bad either.  He would start as a soph, if he wants to wait a year. Lots
of PT time in 2014.  Gardner, Wilson, Otule, Blue all gone.

They only have 12 committed for 2013.  Assuming they all sign and they all are eligible, we still have space for one player.

You bring up Ron Patterson.  He will be eligible in 2013 as well.  He is a non-rated player by Scout...arguably worse than EC Matthews.

Marquette may be the only school in Division 1 not to have any official visitors through this point of the year and as of now, don't appear to have anything scheduled until Marquette Madness.  Kind of crazy if you think about that.

If you can get EC on campus, you do it, and if he'll commit, you take it. What, you all think come Spring Julius Randle will say "maybe I didn't give Marquette a serious enough look"?

Probably due to all that internal strife within the program that Nunn referred to, aina?

Not when there's a 2-star, no-name recruit that Buzz can mold into a serviceable bench player! Oh wait, the #16 SG would be a good get. Nevermind.

BTW, lossed? Come on, Sultan! Hopefully that was a direct quote from someone else  ;)

Recruit now and in the spring.  The last thing we need is to hold a scholarship now and find ourselves down 2-3 roster spots in the spring yet again.  Fill this spot and it's a certainty we'll be able to get at least one more player that's not committed, transfers, or who gets his release through the coaching carousel in April or May when we'll undoubtedly have room for him.
