Well that's kind of annoying.  NBC Sports Network is the old VS., right?

Indeed. Because of the NHL lockout they'll need to show something between a constant loop of Roadhouse.

Yep.  The network with the Olympics, hockey and cycling.  Or as my friend calls it "The White Sports Network."

If you would like to see the game in person you can contact the school.  Tickets are a cool 25K apiece...!

NBCSports is the best network for sports at the moment.  They're some great competition for ESPN.

Except no one watches it.  I mean this whole "carrier game" thing has been a little bit of a let down compared to last year's.

It was the fourth most watched cable network during the Olympics.  If the programming is there, people will watch it.

With the NHL lockout they need to fill their time with something.  I'm not sure they would have jumped on this otherwise, but just a guess.

Considering that ESPN, USA, Disney, TBS and Fox News have a stranglehold on the top, yes... #4 is an accomplishment.

As I rather agree with the lowsy coverage of the Olympics and that nobody watches the NBC sports channel, I remember that no one watched ESPN in its early days as well. If NBC is willing to to offer the league a fair contract it could turnout to be a win win for the network and the league. ESPN has been casting daggers into the Big East every chance they get. It's time to hitch the league to a network that will promote the league, not kill it. We might even get some great national exposure (ala CBS) on the NBC network on Saturdays and Sundays! For you younger aluums it was NBC that put college basketball on the map in the 60's and 70's. It is my humble opinion that Dick Enberg and Al Maguire were the best college basketball tandem in the business.

No need for humility for that opinion!

That's completely uncalled for, ATL MU Warrior. You know those rating systems are flawed. They don't take in account houses that have, uh, more than two television sets, and other things of that nature.

That's not the point.  You said nobody watches it.  I pointed out that when they have relevant programming on, a whole sh!tload of people somehow find their way to the network.  See how that works?

People watch programming, not networks.  As soon as you accept that notion, you will see that this network can be viable, as long as the right programming is there.  Is it viable now?  Not so much.  Doesn't mean it won't be in the future

The important point here is that this network is only found when people search for it.  Unlike if the game was on ESPN and we'd pick up a whole crap-ton of casual eyeballs and get our name in front of people who wouldn't otherwise know Marquette Basketball, only the Ohio State and Marquette fan-bases as well as the 34 people trying to find a hockey game to watch will put in the necessary effort to get this game on their TV.

If they show enough stuff people want to watch, people will watch it.  I don't I've ever not watched a good game or show or whatever because of what channel its on, plus I don't know about you guys but I'm going to watch the MU game so that's good for me

The biggest drawback of the BEast going to NBC sports will be that ESPN will flat out stop covering the league in any format.  Look at what has happened to the NHL ever since they stopped broadcasting games on ESPN.  There is almost no coverage on Sportscenter or any other recap show on the four letter.

Does anyone know what type of online streaming NBC Sports provides?  The ability to get games through ESPN3 was also a nice benefit.

I really hope that the NBC Sports Network makes it.  I've really come to loathe most of the "talent" at ESPN.   Most of the analysis on any of ESPN's non-game programming is just people shouting nonsense.

Why are you guys complaining? It's on national TV. For those who don't watch it that's their fault, fvck em.

Wait, you're suggesting that kind of person who's watching ESPN college basketball at 6 p.m. on a Friday evening "wouldn't otherwise know Marquette Basketball?"
Who are these dedicated ESPN viewers that have never heard of Marquette? And why would they spend a Friday evening watching a Marquette game (note: the aircraft carrier novelty wears off after about five minutes) if they're the kind of person who hasn't even heard of MU, i.e. a non-college basketball fan?
And, most importantly, why do we care whether these imaginary people are watching? How does it benefit Marquette that some non-college basketball fan in Arizona catches two minutes of a game while searching for World Series of Poker reruns or NHRA Today? Do you believe that person magically will be transformed into a diehard Marquette supporter because they're playing on a boat?

Why am I asking so many questions?

Not sure about NBC Sports, but programming on ESPN3/WatchESPN is going to be severely limited this year... last year, anything that was on ESPN or ESPN2 was simulcast on ESPN3; this year, only subscribers to Brighthouse, Xfinity, FIOS, Time Warner, and Mid-Con will get access to those games airing on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Right now, 24 MU games are slated to be streamed on ESPN3 this year, and 18 of them will only be available to subscribers.

That has nothing to go with it. NHL hockey is not on Friday's on NBC.
