Nothing like the real thing!

this is the best news of the day!!!
Wow. That should be titled "Pope Finds New Way to Reduce Church Attendance Even More."
I think what will happen is that certain properly spaced parishes will have one Mass in Latin on a Sunday e.g. one on the south side of Milwaukee and one parish on the north side----it's a beautiful Mass.
does St. Josephat's or some other south side church still do the Latin Mass once a sunday? I remember people going down there for that Mass when I was in school, but that was a few years ago.

No, he is just giving individual parishes the option of offering latin masses. This doesn't mean we are fully going back to Latin...masses will still be offered in English, etc. This is a way of bringing back people to the church and its been a long time coming. This actually was supposed to be done back in April.
So, there will be the choice and you can opt not to go. Phew. Not on a bet.

A: The tridentine mass.
Q: What is something you'll never see at a Jesuit Institution?

Saint Stanislaus on south fifth street is home to the tridentine community. I believe the mass is at 10:00 AM.

This is exactly what I feared when I heard they had made Ratzinger pope. I cried that day.
I agree---- IMO there is no one true church----it's a means to an end and there can be a number of differnt approaches to that end-----religion is therefore but a tool. Just because the Catholic Church was the first Christian Church doesn't mean that it has to be the only one!
Different strokes for different folks!
What is it that you like about the availability of the Mass in Latin?
I think the Latin Mass is beautiful ----was brought up with the Latin Mass----Mass hasn't been the same to me since!

So what's new about this pronouncement? It's certainly nothing new.

On a bet, you wouldn't go to a old rite mass? You wouldn't go to the mass that our fathers, mothers, grandparents and great grandparents went to? You wouldn't go to a mass which many of our ancestors endured prosecution to get to? Would you go to the new mass on a bet?

How about the mass many of our ancestors went to in order to avoid persecution?

Absolutely. The church has provided sanctuary to those in for being persecuted for hundreds of years.
Less than zero interest in a Latin Rite Mass. My ancestors attendance or lack thereof has no impact on whether I go. I am more than comfortable with the modern Eucharistic service.
While the latin mass may be beautiful, next to noone speaks or can understand latin anymore and church is hard enough for some ppl to attend when they know what's being said and sort of understand it. It's a nice option I'm sure, but I doubt it will help numbers at Catholic churches. Don't think it'll hurt them though either.
