Title: MKE --> Wrigley & Back
Post by: MUBurrow on August 27, 2012, 01:57:14 PM
Hey, any scoopers out there have transportation advice on driving from Milwaukee to Wrigley and back? I'm going for the Brewers-Cubs game tomorrow, and will be coming back to Milwaukee after the game tomorrow night, and was hoping for some insider info as to the best way to handle the to and from. I'll be driving from MKE to Chicago, and don't mind dealing with some public transportation, parking farther away and taking the train in, etc, if it makes life with the car easier. Any tips appreciated.

How much public transportation can you handle?

Option 1: While at school, we would take the Metra from Kenosha to Ravenswood. You can either cab it from Ravenswood to Wrigley, or walk down Lawrence to the Red Line, Red Line stops at Wrigley.

Option 2: Drive to DeVry University off of Addison and Western and take the CTA shuttle into Wrigley. Still going to have a solid 20-30 minutes on Addison to get there. I've done this, it's like $6.00 for parking and the bus, but you're still ready to punch a baby in the face by the time you get to DeVry.

Option 3: Helicopter in.

Dude, just drive to the game and pony up for some convenient parking. Better question is who in their right mind really wants to go to a Cubs vs. Brewers game?

When I go, I park in Skokie (the lot is a couple of blocks off I94) and take the L, yellow line, transfer to red line to Wrigley. It avoids much of the auto congestion. It is relatively inexpensive too. A couple $ to park and a couple of $ for the train.

Beware as that last train from Howard to Skokie on the yellow is at 11PM.  Tight for a night game if you hit the bars after.  The other option is to get off the Edens in Wilmette and take that at Linden to Howard and switch to the Red.  There is a big lot at Linden.  The nice thing is you will hit the Express train on the way there for rush hour, and there is no need for a transfer at Howard.  During Cubs games, the Express stops at Addison.  Will have to transfer at Howard on the way back, but those trains run much later.

4never finally made sense.

Also, keep a blow up doll in the passenger seat.  Can take the car pool lane, plus you've got some companionship on the way back if you need it at a rest stop / Wendy's oasis / on the road.

MIght be too late depnding when you leave for Chicago an idea if you don't mind a walk and are averse to paying $20 -30  to park in some garage/alley space nearby......
Take 94 to Chicago and follow 94 when it splits with 294........continue to Foster Ave exit.....Exit gets you on Cicero Ave first heading south. Continue south past Foster, do not turn, take Cicero to Montrose Ave and make a left, head east......be a bit of a ride but neighborhoods ok.....take to Clark St and make a right, go south.....about 3 blocks is a light at Southport. Continue south but begin looking for on street spaces which are free until you reach Irving Park. Games haven't been well attended and you probably will find a space or two deoending on your arrival time. At Irving make a right. Can't park on Irving but go to Southport then north and around again if you want to circle around a bit. Can not park on resdiential streets without a local decal as per signs posted. If around 6 PM and still searching you can take Irving Park west to Ashland Ave (Lakeview High School on the NE corner) and park on northbound Ashland in front of ther high school free after 6PM. Walk to Irving Park, east to Clark and south about 5 blocks to Wrigley. if hungry stop at Yakzie's on Clark for a beer and burger near the park......tell Joe I sent you....Depemding on your arrival time you may venture south a bit on Clark to see if you get lucky closer to the park with on street spaces or you can give ina and pay a local for that alley spot if you like......

Going home, beat the ball game traffic and take Ashland north to Lawrence and then Lawrence west (left) to 90, that's 90 not 94 and get on northbound and follow to 294/Milwaukee from there..........

Just a thought from a local. Like I said all deponds on time you arrive and what you want to try.......

Have fun and enjoy Chicago. I have MU season tix and love getting back to Milwaukee and Miller Park, too.

Wow! 20-30 bucks to park nearby. My son-in-law and I go to the Stadium (Yankee) at least once a summer. Cheapest parking nearby is about 60-70 bucks. If you don't mind walking 8-10 blocks in the Bronx you might find a lot for about 20-30 bucks.

Hey all - just wanted to thank everyone who threw out some tips, I ended up taking a sort of mix and match approach, but the knowledge beforehand made me feel quite a bit more prepared for once I got down there.  I ended up driving down and parking a solid distance away, just North of Irving Park, and walking from there. It was enough of a walk to be free and to get me out of the congestion on the way out. Thanks again all.
