Anyhow, Lunardi has MU as a #5 seed right now, as if it matters.

Still makes me vomit a little seeing Indiana a predicted 1 seed.
I'd take a #5 all day long.
It is important. The higher you start in perception the higher you finish given the same results.
Indiana or Louisville are the best team going in - but there will be plenty of teams capable o knocking them off the top.
Looks like he only has L'ville and Cuse as BE teams ahead of us. Joe's seeding is usually a good indicator of where teams finish in their leagues. Having Joe project us in the top 3 BE teams is pretty cool in what is supposed to be a year that is looking forward to the possibilites of 13-14 (by some, anyway).

IU fans were celebrating like they actually won a championship yesterday when bracketology came out. #1 seed this and that.
When TC went to IU, I predicted he'd have a string of Elite 8's...with #1 seeds. I just don't see him closing the deal in March.
That being said, it looks like IU made the right hire. They can point to the 2-3 horrible years as signs that they were doing it the right way unlike their bitter rival UK. Hopefully they don't read CBS Sports' Critical Coaches series.

Thanks, Tommy...?
If we have a rule like that at Marquette, I sure hope none of our players break it. Can you imagine the reaction when Larry goes to the press about suspending a guy for breaking that rule?

Not at Oral Roberts.

Preseason rankings/perception are important (disproportionately so) but Bracketology is not important...ever.

Always best to keep your pipes unclogged.

A fifth seed equates to a 17-20 ranking and is no differance than a preseson ranking.

There's a Coaches Poll and an AP Poll. Those are the preseason rankings that matter. There are hundreds of "bracketologies" out there. None of them really matter.

Depends on your definition of "matters". Honestly, I don't think any of the rankings or bracketologies have any effect on the actual NCAA seeding. Not Lunardi, not the AP, none of it. What these give is a public perspective on where you stand. Lunardi is saying he thinks we're one of the top-20 teams. Where this does help is for exposure. Lunardi says we're top 20, voters keep an eye on us because of that perception, and if they agree, rank us higher, improving our odds of national coverage, and potentially catching the eye of the selection committee.
It doesn't matter much. It doesn't directly shape the bracket. But any positive press is helpful, even if it's small.
The only way it matters is if it helps recruiting. Nunn looks at it and sees we are projected as a 5th seed. Sees UCLA projected as a one seed. Does not see DePaul or Illinois. I think Ohio St was projected as a four seed. He wants to play a lot, but also wants to play for a good team. Does this bracketology help eliminate DePaul and Illinois? How do the other teams project going forward? I beleive UCLA has a one and done on their team. Outside of that it does not look good bragging rights in State of Wisconsin when MU is a 5 and UW is a 3.
