Title: Before you get mad at Digger picking ND in a game or hating on MU...
Post by: PGsHeroes32 on August 11, 2012, 11:20:52 PM
just remember the poor guy threw out the opening pitch at a freaking cubs game. Guess you gotta have garbage as the opening act for garbage.

Sorry to any those unlucky enough to be Cubs fans.

Thanks for the hate directed toward a sizable portion of your fellow MU fans.  With Scoopers like yourself who needs Badger trolls?

I'm all for the occasional pointless thread on this board, but this one's pretty dumb.

Weren't the Brewers thinking that they were going to be good THIS year? How's that working out?

Well, when your starting SS and 1st basemen have season ending injuries 1/5 of the way into the year and your starting catcher misses 1/2 of the season, guys who make up numbers 5, 7, and 8 in your lineup, your 3rd starter misses 1/3 of the year with sn injury, and your 4th starter has a season ending injury 1/5 of the way through the year, that changes expectations and results.

The Brewers bullpen is bad enough that even if healthy they still would not have made the Playoffs this year, but if Narveson isn't out then Estrada can stay in the bullpen and if the 3 everyday players stay healthy the offense is much more consistent. 1/3 of the entire lineup has missed over 1/2 of the year and 2/5 of the starting rotation missed significant time. That's pretty big

Forget that, though.

Excuses or facts?  That is always a trite and cute phrase.  Sometimes there are explanations, no?  Would MU have made the tourney with a healthy Diener or is that just an excuse?  Would they have had a legitimate shot at the Final 4, BE Championship and higher seed with a healthy James, or is that just an excuse?  How many teams overcome those injuries?  Not everyone can be the 2010 Packers.  We all know the Bears and Cubs for damn sure can't.

The Diener and James injuries aren't a fair comparison because those guys were (arguably in James' case) the most important players on the team. It would be like if the Dodgers lost Matt Kemp for 50+ games but stayed in 1st place or if the Reds lost Joey Votto for a month and kept on winning.

The White Sox were picked by SI to lose 95 games and finish last in the AL Central. Their #1 starting pitcher has missed virtually the entire season. Their #2 has been on the DL, and their "perfect game" guy has also been shelved. Their starting 3rd baseman has missed the entire season and their starting 1st baseman has struggled for 2 months with injuries before landing on the DL recently. And 2 members of their bullpen have been on the DL. My point is excuses are available to any baseball team as it's a long season and injuries are inevitable. Good teams overcome them. Bad teams don't.

Why would the Cubs want to be the 2010 Packers?

BTW, we wouldn't have made the tournament with a healthy Diener. We were awful that year. And James' injury was tough, but we were no Final Four team.
