Playing for Marquette is upcoming season
Playing for Marquette this upcoming season per Mark Miller.
Very good news. MU needs his outside shooting. Hopefully, whatever the problem was has been straightened out.
I believe we will have to solid scorers coming off the bench with Gardner and Mayo
Todd also developed into an outstanding defender and rebounder as the season went on. He can be an all-conference player his junior year
Here's the tweet: "Relax Marquette fans ... Todd Mayo will indeed return for 2012-13 school year. His outside shooting is a key for upcoming season. "
Great news. He's a key player for us with plenty of upside despite his age.

Good to have Todd back. Let's hope he's worked through whatever Buzz expected of him.
Awesome. Season can't start soon enough. It's so hard to get through this time of year.

Tom, Tom, Tom, we are waiting to hear from you.
Mark, nice article.
Awesome Mayo will be back...
where did all that predicted Hiroshima-like rage go this summer??????
Great news to have Todd back. Think he will very likely lead the team in scoring this season. Would have been a huge blow to lose him. Awesome news!

I like the chances of the senior that averaged over 13 ppg each of the last 2 years, especially as Mayo will likely be coming off the bench. But I do think he's well-positioned to have a big year and along with Gardner give us one of the best 1-2 bench combos in the country, and essentially make it seem like teams have to contend with 7 starting caliber players.

Dear Mark Miller,
If you truly want us to relax, just pass on that Kevon Looney has committed to MU.

Yeah...I actually forgot about Lockett when making the statement on Mayo leading the team in scoring next year - although it still wouldn't surprise me if Todd does - but to your point, Lockett would be the safer bet if betting. Todd and Gardner make a formidable 1-2 punch off the bench indeed - though I suspect both will be on the floor during crunch time/closing games.

Certainly agree, but I'm still not sure I'd even consider Gardner and Mayo reserves. I think we could have 7 guys who could be basically starters in any combination, and I'd lump them into three groups:
1. Junior Cadougan, Vander Blue, Todd Mayo and Trent Lockett (in no particular order, 3 of 4)
2. Jamil Wilson need on the court unless you can ever double up Otule and Gardner
3. Davante Gardner and Chris Otule
As I've said, I believe Gardner is our best player this year. No question Otule's defense is huge, and you probably do want him to start early on to keep opponents from getting a couple of easy buckets and fouls at the rim early, but if I'm write and Gardner is our best player this year, I think you've got to get him 25 minutes at least even if he technically doesn't start.
Mayo is so explosive it's hard to see him not stepping it up to start at first glance, but with rebounding being our issue, you probably do have to bring Lockett into the fold. I'm going to dissect this further on Cracked Sidewalks and take a look, but if Mayo and Gardner are true bench players then I believe you are right - we will not only have the 6th man of the year but the 7th man of the year as well.
WELCOME BACK, TODD!!! ;D

I agree. (unless we need a defensive stop bc obviously Chris > DG. I would expect Todd to be in defensively tho.)
Hiroshima sure looks nice this time of the year.

Looney was running the scoreboard at my son's game last weekend. He is Stacey Augmon long and lean. He said "good game" to my son after and I said "forget about Georgetown, you know where to go" and pointed to my MU logo. He just smiled and said, "we'll see." So it's pretty much a lock he's going to MU, so you can relax.
