Milwaukee should host the 2024 Olympics!

Come on... we'd have to get a new football stadium if Milwaukee hosted the olympics...

As far as venues and infrastructure goes, Milwaukee is plausible... but then, the same could be said for just about every major city in the world.
Judging by the quality of the Olympic venues which are being built these days, I wouldn't count on a stadium lasting more than 5-10 years without another major tenant to help pay the bills (MLS, anyone)?
Even with a stadium built on the "Olympic" dime, how long before MU Football breaks even, or does it ever turn a profit? Frankly, I'll take NBC's $4M/year payment for not having a football team.
Kind of a dumb article if you know anything about the politics of Milwaukee and it's ability to host major events.
1.) We don't have enough hotels. We can't even put in a bid for events like the Super Bowl and NBA All-Star game because we don't even meet that requirement.
2.) We can't get a train built on federal dollars, we bitch about the .1% it cost to build Miller Park (that costs politicians jobs and I still hear even sports complain about it despite the success of the brewers), screwed up building an NHL arena, and we turned down a chance at the tribe building a new arena in the Valley. I really doubt city could find enough political sway to even get an organized committee together with enough money to even send a video comparable to the Cleveland tourism videos...
New York should really make the bid. They've built a bunch of world class facilities just in the past three years. Brand new Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Meadowlands II, Red Bulls' stadium...the only venue they'd use that is old is MSG which is undergoing some renovations and is the world's most famous arena. If the Meadowlands isn't fit to be the Olympic stadium they can surely find a spot for one, either in north Jersey, Long Island, or just stick it in Staten Island since nothing is there.

The new Barclays Center in Brooklyn could be used.
Although, it's important to remember that by 2024, those new state-of-the-art facilities will all be 12-15 years old and not nearly as state-of-the-art.

I don't think the IOC would choose New York. Part of the IOC location determination is charity, for lack of a better term. There's

part of the process that looks at the economic situation of the host country/city. The IOC won't make a decision based solely on "need," but all things being equal, the games are going to go to a city that is comparably disadvantaged. That's one of the unspoken reasons (aside from the political reasons) Chicago was of the first eliminated in the 2016 bidding finals... the marginal impact the Olympics would have brought to Chicago was minimal compared to Rio.
New York is going to need the perfect storm to get a bid, because once it gets down to the last three or four cities, New York isn't going to win anyone's sympathy.
