Post by: Afroman on July 18, 2012, 09:27:46 PM
Forgive me for being out of the loop, but who is Garrett Swanson? Is he a walk on?

Walk on transfer from Idaho State.

The kid is showing a bit more at the Pro Am of late.  Active, efficient, hustles. I hope he is okay as he took a hard charge on Saturday late and it looked like he was concussed as the staff evaluated him. Some of the opposing players have been impressed with his solid play. Solid walk-on, not flashy.

If he's half the man Ron Swanson is, then we just got a steal.

Ron Swanson might just be the best character on TV.

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman might have something to say about that.

Do we know for sure that he has to sit out a year? I thought someone posted that Swanson thought he would be immediately eligible. Maybe MU has to appeal to NCAA.

Does he have an outside shot?

From what I seen at pro am, yes. He would not be a star but probably good one game a year at shooting like Jones was.

C'mon dudes, Swanson and Thomas are walk-ons. This ain't no Portman Pilots program. Elite teams, rich in basketball tradition, don't rely on walk-on for more than practice fodder.

The annual Scoop walk-on mythologizing is revving up again. Things are back to normal.

Yeah, Swanson is just a practice guy.  Thomas, though, could provide some zone busting potential ala Scott Christopherson 5 years ago against Cincinnati.

He'll have to sit a year and then have 3 years as a walk on.

"The Big East is definitely different than the Big Sky," Swanson said.

Where did anyone say he is the next coming?  I hope I didn't leave that impression. He is solid walk-on which should make it pretty clear what his role is.  Plays hard, has some skill and height, has been contributing more in the Pro Am. That said, both Thomas and Swanson have earned D1 scholarships and minutes... as did Singleton. That has been a change under Buzz vs. the past in terms of quality.
