A very reliable source has made it known that there will be a press conference for a "major announcement" about MU athletics Thursday at 3pm at the Al.
Stay tuned....
hmmm I see one of two options
1) A big home-home series is announced with a Pac-10 school
2) Crean announces the signing of a recruit
I kind of have a feeling it will be that latter and I kind of have a feeling it will be Crittle.

I don't think you can announce the signing of a recruit. Expecially not one who is still in high school and not yet signed an LOI to the school.
Along those lines though perhaps it could be an announcement of the admittance of all 4 2007 recruits? Or, someone in the AD is leaving to pursue other opportunities?
Maybe it's a return to Warriors?
Or to announce our new AD.
I've got to believe they'd only hold a press conference for very good, or very bad news.
Being the optimist, I'm going to say it's good news along the lines of:
- An AD being hired
- Marquette hiring a high-caliber coach for another sport (it is a "MU Athletics" announcement, but would they hire another coach without an AD?)
- Official Converse/Wade announcement
- Wade wants to return to school, and they found a loophole to get him his eligibility back and let him play on the team again 8)

Or to announce our new AD.
So, three weeks ago when they announced that they suspended the search and would keep Cottingham as the interim they were bluffing?
I've dealt with the ineptitude at the lower levels of the department for years and simply chalked it up to turnover and student staffing. Maybe it's more then that.

Don't get our hopes up by mentioning that.. what's wrong with you.. I am starting to think you like misery :P
im just hoping for something positive but a return to the warriors would be incredible.
Warriors...Marquette doesn't have the common sense to do what's right in that regard.
I'll bet rocky is correct. It's got to be a Wade/Converse thing or the fact that Crean has decided to become the AD.
Would they hold a press conference about the schedule? Presumably, a press conference is called because they believe the media will actually have questions other than, "What time is tipoff?"

Give it a rest.
New sports to get us out of last place in the BEast in # of sports offered. Non-scholly football anyone?
With the announcement centering around "MU Athletics" and not a particular sport, I would have to assume that it impacts all the sports----so a new AD is a leading possibility------or a major donation or grant to endow MU athletics!
Jamil Wilson to Marquette...Woelful to be on hand to make the announcement.
I think it's the AD announcement and maybe the mention of something savory in the upcoming schedule.
making himself available to the NBA. ;D
Does the WADE brand make soccer, golf, track shoes? I doubt it and I'm guessing it'sn not that.
to announce another 5'9" guard recruit.
If basketball related...............Could this be a well planned announcement immediately prior to the NBA Draft? You know, once again get Marquette mentioned during the draft broadcast to get recruits, fans, etc relating Marquette and the NBA? Maybe.

It took you 12 minutes to come up with that quip?
If you believe everything you read on the internet...
- The announcement isn't *that* big of a deal, and it has nothing t do with the AD position.
That really just leaves me wondering more, and the info may be wrong. But it's what I've heard.
My guess is it's either financial or a new AD. Perhaps they found the rest of the $$ needed for the new soccer stadium?
I am prepared to be underwhelmed. You should all probably do the same.
New AD. Maybe addition of a new sport like women's golf, Mens volleyball, rowing, or lacrosse (read also: Not Football).
My guess is it has something to do with the necesary funding for the soccer complex. Given that Crean should not be there.
I think they are announcing the bobble heads for the upcoming year.
On Dodds Board, Dodds said that the press conference does not involve a new AD. Take it for what it's worth.
Not trying to knock soccer, but does funding the new soccer stadium qualify as a "major announcement"?

Could be. I don't know why everyone assumes it its related to basketball. Was there any indication that it was about basketball?
No one seems to know anything, or if they do, it hasn't leaked anywhere yet.
So is anyone going to be there to update us, or to provide us with pictures?
i'm on campus. so I'll go see what this is all about and get back to you guys ;D

Well considering it is across the street from where you live I would expect you to.
Are any of the Milwaukee news stations carrying it as a live feed?
rumor: creans to pledge $100,000 to new soccer stadium.
If that's all that was announced at the press conference, that is a total joke.
They could have put out a press release.
This just gives ammunition to the folks who think that Crean totally runs everything in the MU athletic department.

That's confirmed - no longer a rumor.
That's cool, now...hopefully there's more to it than that...
Yeah, wow, that was really worth a 'major' press conference. What a joke.
Nice that Crean pledged $100,000 for the soccer stadium. How about we hold a press conference to confirm that he puts his pants on one leg at a time, or what kind of deodorant he uses.
I love Crean, but this calling of a press conference for that was idiotic.
Wow. If that's all it was, I'm shocked, and disappointed.
As a backer of Crean, I wish he would have nixed this. Just let the university put out a press release on you and be done w/it. Ugh. I hope it wasn't Crean's idea as all this does is give ammo to his haters.
Yeah, this makes him look like all he is concerned about is PR.
Well, he better win a tournament game this year.
and i was really hoping for a Wade apparel related announcement. With all the soccer staff standing around before, though, i knew b-ball wasn't the topic of discussion. Good for the soccer program though.
I agree that I think this is a stupid press conference to hold, but maybe Crean viewed it as a way of showing how committed he was to stay at this university. Every offseason everyone is worried about the next "Crean to" rumor... well maybe this was his way of trying to show that he's not going anywhere.
I'm just trying to find some inside purpose for this because it was probably one of the most pointless press conferences ever. A little optimism.
that's oe way t look at it. and if that's his way to show his commitment, i can accept that. for all we know the press conference was for MU fans benefit and hot TC's ego.
maybe he is just trying to lend support to the soccer program... having him make a press conference draws a lot of attention to it and might encourage more support and donations.
Marquette is becoming all things, all Crean. This one is over the top. Maybe subconsciously he feels he owes the University a little bread. Without a doubt, I can see it now, "Tommy Crean Soccer Stadium."

Um, I think the Klein's would be ten times more worthy of obtaining the naming rights.
