The NBA concurs on Jae as the Big East player of the year!
Kevin Jones was a great college basketball player. I haven't seen any of the Euro players, but I'd rather have Jones on my team than any "project."

Agreed. Especially since a considerable number of those Euro players probably won't ever come over.
really too bad for Kevin Jones. its disheartening to think that given the way he played this year, there really isnt anything he could have done 8 months ago to wind up getting his name called tonight.

Yeah it's weird how that goes. Definitely would have been nice to see him drafted. He's a very good player.
Speaking of schadenfreude, Jordan Taylor didn't get drafted either. I wonder if he'll be able to land somewhere.

Wasn't he projected just out of the lottery had he come out last year? I wouldn't doubt Bo having the same Coach K-Elton Brand attitude and trying to keep kids in school when it's really not best for them.
Also thinking about Ashton Gibbs...probably a late-first to early-second guy if he hadn't come back for his senior season. Not only that, but his "I must shoot every time I touch the ball" mindset coupled with a career low shooting percentage made Pitt a far worse team than they could have been without him.
Between tanking his draft stock and tanking Pitt's year, I'm not sure there's a bigger one-year loser than Gibbs.
This years draft and/or lack of draft for some players will only reinforce to players when they are hot go. A lot of players mis-read the tea leaves and stayed a year longer than they should have and it literally cost them millions.

I don't know...it is pretty hard to blame Bo for that. He got more out of Taylor than many coaches would have.

Not sure if you're serious, but Taylor wasn't projected anywhere near the lottery. I don't think he was even a first round pick in any of the mocks I recall. But he was being projected as a drafted player, which I felt was his ceiling, and that staying another year without Leuer and Nankivil would really hurt his stock. It did. I think he would have heard his name last year, this year, he never had a chance.

The loss of Leuer and Nankivil was huge. I had MU at a huge advantage this last season due to that loss. They made Taylor.
Going into the last few picks Taylor was not even in the top 10 players available list. He was not close to being drafted.

He is just not nearly athletic enough to play in the NBA, and I think that would have been pretty evident during the evaluation process even if he declared eligible last year. People seem to think that NBA execs only look at college game tape to evaluate a player and say "well he should have come out."
IMO, the NBA Draft needs to be expanded to 4-6 rounds and the NBDL should become a true feeder system. If the NBA stopped financially supporting the money suck that is the WNBA, they could likely afford to add enough NBDL teams so that each NBA team had its own affiliated minor league team. Instead of stashing players in Europe, NBA teams could draft more NCAA players and send them to the NBDL to develop, even 1st Round picks who will likely ride the pines for a year or two. Also, they could follow the MLB model and if a player does not sign with your team within 1 year, you lose his rights. That would decrease teams drafting Euro "projects" who may or may not have any intention of coming over to the NBA. Oh, and if the Kings and Bobcats were contracted would anyone notice?
Obviously, this is not going to happen any time soon because the NBA has a free feeder system in the NCAA, but it sounds good in theory, right?

No, it's also the draft pool last year. Taylor compared a lot more favorably to the players last year because it wasn't as deep a draft. He's a sound, smart basketball player who doesn't have the athleticism but fundamentally may have looked good enough to spend a non-guaranteed pick on. Coming out, I think he has a much better chance of being drafted in a year like 2011 than he did 2012.

While I agree conceptually, the NBA wouldn't do that even if they dropped the WNBA. All the players going to Europe builds the NBA brand in Europe and gives them additional revenue streams that an expanded NBDL wouldn't. I think Stern's dream right now would be to get the NBA financially sound enough to expand into Europe like the NFL. Having an expanded NBDL doesn't do anything from a revenue perspective, makes sense from a talent standpoint but talent isn't a real issue right now with the NBA.
Was looking at the WVU Scout board...thought some of the comments were rather funny...
On Kevin Jones vs Udonis Haslem, who averaged 25 mpg for the champion Heat...
Quote from: SteaminWillyBeaminHaslem averaged 6 points and 7 boards in 25 minutes this season. If KJ lands somewhere where he can get 25 minutes a game, he will get those numbers easy....
On the anti-WVU conspiracy...
Quote from: WVUDrummerSomeone from WVU must have pissed off some league power awhile ago. Typical
Quote from: WVUDrummer (on Robbie Hummel being drafted)If this doesn't prove some conspiracy against WVU I don't know what does. Someone with no knees gets drafted over KJ? I don't get it
Quote from: bwat515WVUAgree... It's a known fact that David Stern hates anything that comes out of Morgantown
Still not over Jae winning BEPOY...
Quote from: CharloteerAnother reason to be glad to be out of the BE. Think Jones still gets ignored if he was able to add BE POY to his resume?
Quote from: STEELSBHe may have gotten drafted, but probably still not that high. Crowder went 34th, which isn't that great. (brew edit: Apparently KJ would have went 34th had he won BEPOY :D
Is it bad that I am still enjoying pointing and laughing at the Mountaineers? Oh well...glad they're gone.
^^maybe they would have a point if the NBA changed 'the logo' to someone else :D

Apparently, you guys should apply to any of the 30 NBA teams and offer to correct their talent mis-evaluations. Let me know how that goes. There were reasons why 30 different teams passed on this guy for 60 picks. Great college basketball player does not equal great (or even adequate) NBA player.

schadenfreude - taking pleasure in the misfortunes of others. I have learned a new word today. Thank you, Bocephys.
I feel somewhat guilty for starting this thread for the disrespect given to Mr. Jones, who as a worthy opponent deserves better. But, I simply could not stop myself from getting one last dig in on those great fans from the wonderful state of West Virginia for the reasons so excellently illustrated in brewcity77's post on their scout board's posts. Adios, you makers of moonshine, burners of couches and drunk throwers of any available things at the media table!
Taylor is going to be on the Bucks summer league team

To steal from the Heat's t-shirts...the BE POY is "Earned Not Given." Jones was a great college player. But Crowder busted his ass all year while Jones pulled a Tyga and "Faded".
