Title: NBA Draft Thread
Post by: nyg on June 28, 2012, 06:46:55 PM
What a start to the draft.  Kentucky players go one and two.  Talk about adding on to what that does for Kentucky recruiting.  Like they need it.

Has about the same wingspan as Anthony Davis.  Kid can be really good if he has the right attitude and plays hard all the time.

Great defensive player.   Like the pick.

Ok, I have a really dumb and simplistic question about the draft.

There have been a number of Big East players drafted so far.  None of the picks (as of 8:50pm) include the BE POY.  You would think that the POY of a top league would be picked before most of the other players from their respective leagues.

I know that my premise is not perfect, but.......?

I recognize that some teams pick based on position need, which accounts for some of this.

The draft is about potential and position.  The BE players chosen were underclassman with more potential than a senior, or 7 feet tall (Drummond and Melo) which the BE POY is not.

Not a Henson fan as a lottery pick. He's a nice player but I don't see him being any more than a solid contributor as the best-case and Branden Wright as worst-case. The Bucks need more than that. Right now, they seem to be collecting players who could potentially be the third or fourth best player on a championship team but no one who you can really build around.
Title: Re: NBA Draft Thread
Post by: Blackhat on June 28, 2012, 08:55:52 PM
Not sure a centerpiece player for a championship team is  often available at 14.

Henson was the best player available imo and gives the Bucks flexibility for a trade.

Henson's a good version of Larry Sanders.   Sanders and Udoh or Gooden could get you a solid wing or guard.

Can't believe Perry Jones fell this far and the Heat passed on him. Dreaming of him making it one more pick to Chicago.

You're right but the Bucks continue to pick in that 8-15 range where it's hard to find anything more than a "solid contributor." If they want to win consistently and actually have a chance to contend (and draw some fans), they need to make a big move to try to grab a high draft pick. Think Portland would have listened to an offer of Brandon Jennings and #14 for #6, #11? I do. Not saying that they would have gotten a HOFer in those spots but they need to do something to get out of NBA purgatory.

Better pick than Taylor, not nearly the best pick they could have made. Like Bilas said, needs to work on PG skills and shooting. That doesn't scream first round to me.

If you go on Twitter you can find out who will be drafted about three minutes before it happens.

You can also see trades a half hour before ESPN mentions them.

bodes well for Jae that Dallas wanted him and Bernard James. Shows a real commitment to high character, hustle type defenders. From a playing time standpoint, I think this is probably as good a destination as any. If we've learned anything, its that if you dont go in the first, you just want to go somewhere you can have a legitimate shot to get on the court.

Miller should have stayed one more year.  He is extremely talented, but needed more refinement.  That would have lead him to first round in 2013.  Denver got him cheap, very cheap.

I've got a bad feeling that this won't end up well for DJO....   :-\

Best option is going undrafted find the right team (hopefully bulls) and then u can sign a big contract after ur one year deal ends just ask Wes how that worked out

Like to see DJO get drafted, but probably better if he doesn't at this point.  Maybe Knicks knew he would not and thats why they didn't select him.  Sign him as a free agent.

Wow, will be a tough deal for DJO to stay with Mavs, but who knows.  Congrats to two MU athletes getting drafted tonight.  Very impressive.

I thought DJO would not go before the Bosnian Georgian Turk point guard

to be fair, things are moving pretty quickly.

very happy about this trade. the chances for both jae and djo to make the same team had to be fairly low, so glad to see djo get moved to another shallow team where he could definitely make the squad.

I read, just not quick enough for you. Just state the trade.  Jeez, what is the problem.

Sorry I quoted you as it was not specifically directed at just you, but there were about 3-4 ppl who said DJO to Lakers.  And I did state it on the bottom of page 4.

No kidding, I'm just reading the draft board on nba.com and merging topics here.  Hard to keep up, just correct us and move on.

OK, because this was a pretty good thread going before your comment.

Back on track.  Much, much better slot for DJO with Lakers having only one pick.  And, good for Purdue's Hummel  with his injury factors.
