Dwyane Wade needs surgery on his left knee and will miss the London Olympics.
The Chicago native and Miami Heat guard called USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski on Thursday and let them know that he is not healthy enough to participate in the Olympics.
Wade was playing through pain for much of the postseason, yet still averaged 22.6 points during Miami's five-game win over Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.
Wade tells The Associated Press that the situation is disappointing. Wade and his doctors are in the process of scheduling the surgery.
Wade was the leading scorer on the team that won Olympic gold in Beijing four years ago. He also played for the U.S. on the squad that won bronze at Athens

For his replacement, they should find a tall lights-out shooter....from Brown Deer.
I like how you think, drew. They have plenty of superior athletes. They could use the best long-range shooter in the NBA -- and one of the best anybody anywhere has ever seen.
Probably because he isn't getting paid...
Good, hopefully they can use it as an excuse to keep him out for the first 10-15 games or more of the season so he can peak in the playoffs like usual. He was clearly injured this postseason but was still dangerous enough to demand a double team throughout the Eastern Conference Finals. Can't wait to see what he can do at full strength, plus LeBron finally playing more on the block, and the pieces the Heat will add around him this off season (hopefully Ray Allen, or Marcus Camby if he'll take the pay cut).
This is most definitely good news. The last thing Wade needs is more wear and tear on his body in the form of ultimately meaningless Olympic games.
I blame the IU shorts.
