They still haven't withdrawn officially from the Mountain West. This is the week they have to do so without substantial financial penalty. If they don't, look for them to stay.
Maybe they're going to field teams in BOTH conferences.
I've gotten so confused and twisted about what could happen over the past few years, its hard to even form an opinion on this anymore.

I don't think it matters one bit. But what is happening with the four team playoff that will begin in a couple of years is that the BE has lost something that made it valuable...the autobid to a BCS bowl. Now they will still have a more lucrative TV contract, but not sure Boise wants a few extra $$ to play its football in the BE and its other sports elsewhere.

I agree. Sure seems like Boise is going to take a pass on BE. The four team playoff might be the dagger for BE
Another $5 million exit fee!

Another $5 million exit fee!
And that means what for Marquette?

That means that we should be seriously looking at another conference to land in.
Do the teams split up the exit fees? If so, there would be $5 million from West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, TCU, and Boise State coming to $25 million.
If the 13 remaining schools split that up, it comes to a little under $2 million a school.
While not a lot, you might as well make some money while all of this nonsense is going on.
I think WV paid more like 15-20Mil so they could go out early?
Sweet! That would be $2.7 a school!
Granted this is assuming the schools split it which I don't know if they do.

Football schools get most of it, is my guess. West Virginia paid 20 million.
Boise may just want to keep its options open until the last moment, just in case anything crazy happens.

I guess what they are trying to do is get the MWC to adopt a policy similar to the B12 where TV and bowl revenue is differentiated in someway. (IOW, it isn't shared equally.) That way they can earn more than what they do currently in the MWC, and the individual MWC members can benefit from retaining what is arguably their marquee program. The breakup of the WAC has really screwed things up for them because they don't have many good choices to place their "Olympic sports."
I think they still ultimately sign up with the BE. They'll make so much more in the Big East and money Talks. Even in terms of the Playoffs they'll have a better chance to snag the 4th spot fromt he BE than they will from the MWC. They'll still have to go undefeated but it's a slightly better chance because their SOS will be higher.
Well, so far they have not withdrawn from their conference. Now the penalty for leaving goes up to 7.5mm after today. Sure looks like BE football is a mess.
They've withdrawn from the MWC.

Discussed this at work this week with a co-worker from our Boise office. They are coming to the BE according to his "local" knowledge.
My cousin from Sacramento, CA was out 2 wks ago. Her son goes to Boise. Sounds like they are really excited to get started in the Big East.

This should read "They're really excited for their perennial BCS bowl berth/consideration for the 4 team playoff"
