And yet, Mark Miller doesn't look like he's wearing a tin foil hat.........
We don't really have room for one do we? Only if it's a Lockett type transfer right? Although, due to transfers, I'm sure it would work out if we only had one more transfer in.

We have room for one in 2012...zero in 2013 assuming Otule gets a sixth year.

Correct, if it's an immediate eligibility senior transfer, we have room. If we take another transfer, such as Dorian Finney-Smith or Jarrod Uthoff, it only works if someone is not back in 2013. If Otule's waiver was denied, we'd have room for one of those guys without any problem. If Otule's waiver is granted and one of them came, someone would have to be out that we expect here for 2012-13, either this year or next.
OK...now he is saying that "one could be a walk-on" over on IWB's board.
Two quality walk-ons? Can the day be far away when MU will have as many players as Louisville?
I really believe Buzz will use the open scholarship for this year. It would put us one over assuming Otule comes back. It also would not surpise me to see him take one more for 2013.
Did Jake Thomas gat a scholarship for the coming year again? If not.....

Not yet but it seems likely at this juncture as Buzz only has a 2012-13 at his disposal so he'd need to find a one year Lockett type player to fill in. I wouldn't expect Buzz to fill this year with a player that is actually here and then need to absolutely count on at least one scholly player leaving OR Chris not getting his 6th year to make room in 13-14. In contrast, I'd still expect Buzz to be recruiting '13 pending the November signing date as verbals are just that.

This is a lot of assumptions that are most likely incorrect (with the information we currently have).
Mark Miller already said that we should expect 1 or 2 more transfer signings with one of those probably being a walk-on.
Any freshman centers looking to transfer? Could be a nice bridge between the Otule/Gardner two-headed monster and Stone.

And he said that exactly when? Might one of those be yesterday's commitment for '13? Seems to me that Mr. Miller might be assuming things. I guess we'll see.

Did you really not read the first post in this thread?
Of course I did. So when we're at the ballgame in November and we don't have any additional '12-13 scholly players (a walk-on wouldn't surprise me), you can buy me a beer. Deal?

Wow. Have you not seen all the guys Buzz is still going after for 2013 still? Were in the top 3 for the center from Whitney Young which was just confirmed.

You misunderstand. I'm talking '12. I believe Jake gets the last allowable '12 scholly. I'd be surprised NOT to be still going after '13. Hope that clears anything up unless I misspoke, And for the record, I have no sources. Thank you all.

I'd bet my paycheck JT doesn't get a scholarship unless someone else leaves. Even if Buzz doesn't fill it for 2012, he'll want to keep the option open of a midseason transfer if someone we were close on decides to reassess their options. The only reason JT got a schollie last year is because we were 2 under. I don't think it would have happened if it were the last one.

I was 2 under this morning after the 3rd hole. Finished 18 over, though.

There are very few midseason transfers and the player would have to be very good for Buzz to want him. My guess is that Maymon and Smith transferring out at mid-season would make Buzz question taking a mid-season transfer. Players transferring at mid-season do not seem to have the toughness Buzz wants.

Still really doubt Buzz doesn't leave a schollie open. And the Maymon situation wouldn't make Buzz think differently. Smith, yes.
Any info on one or two additional transfers?
I am not worried about 2013 or 2014 scholarships. It wouldn't surprise me if Otule played a 6th year on his own dime. Five years on scholarship is pretty good.
Otule won't be paying his way if he gets a sixth year.

Ok, so if Otule decised to stay Buzz has to work out the scholarships. So, who are these 1 or 2 transfers? I know of one possible in DFS.

Mark Miller mentioned that one might be a walk-on....a la Jake Thomas.
And I am sure we are still out there recruiting. There is generally so much roster turn-over that I doubt Buzz is all that concerned if we go one or two over for an academic year that doesn't start in 12+ months.

There's a rule that we can only officially oversign by one, right? But that wouldn't come into play until letters of intent are signed in the fall.
I am not sure, if there is a rule about oversigning. Another possiblity is that Mayo's brother would pay his tuition.

It's more likely Todd goes to Europe than OJ pay his way.

I thought I remembered being able to oversign by one. If that's the case, I would think that since Otule's sixth year is not effective until it is actually granted we would technically be able to oversign by two if we wanted.

That
might explain interest in Matt Humphrey and Milton Doyle.
First, Buzz won't leave the scholly open.
Second, he won't be using it on Jake Thomas.
I'm not sure who the scholarship transfer is going to be. But the walk on could be Baba Fajembola from what I've heard. He's a 6'2'' guard who is great friends with Jamil and a pretty good player. I believe he was at a JUCO last year but I'm not exactly sure where.

Here is some Video. J Wilson is actually in it cheering him on with MU shorts.
What are the rules for how much financial aid you could provide for a walk on, there must be some rules governing this or else someone would have already figured out how to in essence get an academic scholarship for a student athlete and not use one of the 13 BB schollies.
CORRECTION: Basketball and football players "count" against scholarship totals no matter the source of their institutional aid.
BTW, Matt Humphrey was one of the transfers that Mark Miller was talking about. According to IWB, the others in question do not fit the mold of a player who would be immediately eligible.
Seems far fetched, but any truth that one of the players transferring in is Garrett Swanson, a kid from Idaho State?
http://www.bigskyfans.com/bengals/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4871 (http://www.bigskyfans.com/bengals/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4871)
He's from Spokane, was a walk-on at ISU, and only averaged about 3.5 ppg and 2 reb.
True or just a body to practice against?

That would be a sexy get. If the kid's only issue is that he is having trouble putting on mass then Todd Smith will be able to handle that.
Always good news to have another
big-man (if this is true) :)
Edit: Looks like the guy is more of a switchable.
Swanson is listed at 6'7" on the Bengal roster.

I'm still looking fir the beast who'll jam it home.

Garrett Swanson, next Marquette Walk-On All-American who deserves a scholarship.
Glad to have you shades.

Was there actually talk of this possibly happening? I played HS ball with him and he never even made it off the bench in high school. I know he is really close with a lot of the current players but did not hear any talk about him coming into the program.
Nice to have another capable body; at least we should be in no danger of not being able to have a 5 on 5 practice anymore. Guess he will sit out this year then be eligible for some Frozena Time in '13.
