Mr.Meelwaukee @ShowTime_McKay
Taking a unofficial to Marquette university tommorow ! #homesweethome
Awesome 2013 class if he commits...
Home sweet home is right man!!!
We need you big guy!
Love the hashtag! Not sure where he fits in the priority list but I like his size.
The Perfect Storm:
McKay in 2013
Looney in 2014
Stone in 2015
I wonder if the iChew move up to Marquette will impact this situation.
Paul Klee over at IlliniHQ said the following - " Indian Hills CC standout Jameel McKay was scheduled for a campus visit to Illinois on Tuesday or Wednesday. Illinois now is on the outside looking in with McKay's recruitment."
Very interesting situation.
Can someone offer a quick run down on McKay?
What was his deal coming out of high school? Is he a full qaulifier? Does he play a wing or a pf?

He was not a full qualifier, he does need the 2 years of JUCO, and with new requirements, will probably have to earn a 2.5 GPA in the process to qualify (compared to 2.25 for incoming freshmen). He's a solid 6'8", some places list him as 6'9", and definitely a power forward. Put up 14.6 and 7.7 en route to a first-team JUCO All-American place as a freshman. He'll need to bulk up some, still listed at 200, but he has a year to hit the weight room, and I'm sure Todd Smith would chisel him up.
As far as options for 2013, I think he's perfect. We have Steve Taylor, but he seems to be as much a wing as a true PF, and in Buzz's system, I'd love to have a guy like McKay around not just for 2013-14 but maybe more importantly for 2014-15 after Otule and Gardner graduate so we have some experienced size to help the seemingly inevitable 2014 big man ease into thing.
I like what I hear. Bring him home!
Here's an article on McKay's recruitment. We are in his top-6 and have been in on him since HS.

I like this quote.
He explained, "I'm looking for a staff that will help push and be all I can be. I want a coach who has history with JUCO players and wants to push me to get to the NBA. I want to be an NBA draft pick."

Sounds like he might like buzz
same time, wow
My guess is that if buzz wants him we get him. But we are going to need a post in 2013 in my opinion.
Buzz has JUCO roots, has sent one JUCO player to the NBA, and is about to send two more.
Chew coached at Indian Hills and had a prior recruiting relationship with McKay.
Milwaukee-bred Dwight Buycks starred at Indian Hills, then started 50%+ of his games at MU and averaged 20+ mpg from the outset.
Putting on the MU blue and gold seems like a no-brainer to me.
If we end up adding McKay to the 2013 class with Wilson & Burton, I propose we nickname that class "Milwaukee's Best."

If everything goes perfectly, we could have 4 Milwaukee guys starting for us in a couple years on an elite 8 or better team. Has there been a team with that kind of core of hometown players since the Flintstones?
(Not sure if all the years would match up, just guessing off the top of my head.)

We'd have to come up with just as good nickname too

My vote is for Brewsers. Has that gritty, tough kind of feel that made the Flintstones so appealing.

Wis Kids?
Really like this quote: "I wasn't always heavily recruited from a young age. I was overlooked, so I feel like I always have something to prove."
Buzz has said millions of times those are the types of guys he likes, the guys with a chip on their shoulder. I get the feeling he'd fit in really well here.

Milwaukee's Best. Then when one or two or all three start to take over a game, we can say they're going Beast Mode. Or when one hits a clutch free throw or jumper we can say he has Beast Ice in his veins.
Seems like a perfect match for both sides. I like our chances on this one.
Miller Boys?
I still like Milwaukee's Best?
MU would play down any beer reference >:(
The Final 4-14

It would be a nice, um, coincidence, if Jimmy F. Butler, DJO and Jae just happened to be shooting around when Jameel was checking out the Al.
Nickname for Jameel----- J-Mc
Come on down J-Mc
Looks similar to Trend Blackledge.

Jimmy is in Chicago today per his twitter... DJO and Jae are in Minneapolis right now I believe for a workout. Close enough to stop by possibly?
I think this one will get done, Jameel just retweeted Duane's last tweet about not being able to wait to spend some time this afternoon with his future teammates.
Jameel will be scrimmaging at the AL tonight with Duane Wilson and the MU team - I would guess there will be 'others' there as well.

I feel like this is almost a done deal just waiting on DFS to see if he will take a visit or if Nunn will commit. These are probably the last 3 recruits for the 1 open spot.

Knowing Buzz, that's simplifying things way too much. We may have one open spot for the next 2 years, but who knows what could happen with transfers and the like. It seems like we're still in the mix for Doyle, Uthoff, and James as well. And even if someone took that "last" scholarship, I guarantee we'd still be recruiting for 2013 because for all we know we'll have 2 transfers out and one guy declare for the 2013 draft.
Buzz never stops recruiting. Never.

Your absolutely right. What I meant is for this last scholarship I would assume the order is DFS, Mckay, Doyle, James, then Uthoff. Once that last scholarship is filled. Uthoff will look elsewhere, DFS will have transfered. I just don't see us signing two pg's for 13 when we have the need for a big man. Mckay might not be the best of the 5 but he definitely fills a need. Any more news on a visit from Doyle or DFS Brew?
DFS is visiting Louisville this weekend and Iowa State next weekend. From what I recall, his plan was to make three visits, then make a decision next month. Not sure where that last visit will be, or exactly when, but Florida, Marquette, Texas, and Ohio State are still in the mix.
Doyle visited Kansas a couple weeks ago and has been getting increased interest since then despite not getting an offer from the Jayhawks. Chew seems close with Doyle, so it wouldn't surprise me to see us in the running. Don't know if he has a visit scheduled yet or not.
McKay will be on campus today at 3:30 and they will be scrimmaging at 6:00. Sounds like at least Duane Wilson will be there as well, wouldn't be surprised if Burton and at least some of the current team was also there. Not sure if there are any other recruits there tonight.
I hope he signs so we have some quality hair on the team again. Buycks to Crowder was a good transition, but we don't even have the possibility of Jamail Jones' high top fade to get me through this season.
All of McKay's quotes sound like he reads/ listens to a lot of Buzz articles/ pressers and is regurgitating them while flipping the scenarios from a coach looking for a player to a player looking for a coach. Good sign.
Even if McKay commits, he still has to finish up the second year of Juco, so who knows if he will be grades to get into MU? So you keep recruiting.

+1
Saddened by this thought.
This would be a great get obviously. Looks like he's about the same as the Jamil we already have. Lanky, athletic 6'7 guy. Jamil=Jameel.
Two Jameils would clean up a lot of boards/drives.

DFS's mom has already said that Florida is not going to be one of the visits. He visited last year before deciding on Virginia Tech and he will rely on that visit for his Florida information.
I still cannot shake the concept of "Davante graduating" outta my head.
Gonna miss him when he's gone!
Not very good at decoding tweets, but Jameel's from late last night don't sound too positive
I don't get what doesn't sound too positive about that, at worst it sounds neutral to me. He has a big decision to make, and going home after you've been away can bring a lot of emotions into it.
Good lord. Don't overanalyze tweets. These are 18-19 yr old kids. He could miss his girl. He might be talking about Milwaukee. Who knows. Either way, I wouldn't waste my time trying to decode tweets unless he says he had a horrible time or is coming to Marquette. Other than that, it's kind of pointless.
No offense.

RecruitScoop is saying that Creighton is no longer in the mix for Uthoff and he will go to Iowa or Iowa State.
When a visit didn't happen in the last couple of weeks, I figured we were no longer interested...or he wasn't.

It went really badly.
@JucoRecruiting: Jameel McKay (2013/F/Indian Hills CC) has given a verbal commitment to Marquette after taking an unofficial visit yesterday.

jsglow, warriorchick jr. and I went Sobelman's today and saw about six members of the basketball team (including DJO) having lunch with Jameel. At least I think it was him. Height was right, and he had his suitcase with him as if he was on his way back out of town.
Looks like everyone was bonding quite nicely.

The funny part was that he accidentally got JC's burger. Looked at like it wasn't right but then passed it down the row. Personally, I'd have taken a man size bite just to make sure beforehand! They were all having a very good time.
