According to PantherU from PantherU.com, we aren't playing UWM this year due to the Carrier Classic game.

I've learned that Marquette and Milwaukee will not play this upcoming season. #mkebb #mubb

No animosity. Just couldn't match up dates.
Mike Broeker @mikebroeker
@PantherU slot taken for Carrier Classic. Personally spoke to UWM staff. Committed to discussing future opportunities. #mubb

Fixed.
I'm sure when it came down to the last scheduling slot, Mike spent many sleepless nights trying to decide between a nationally televised game on an aircraft carrier against Ohio State and the huge historic rivalry game against UWM. :D
Well, there is a chance we could lose to osu....

Unless we get embarrassed, we're still better off.
What a tremendous and fortunate upgrade.
Good news. Tired of MU beating up on that bottom feeder.
LW comes to town and now we are ducking our cross town rivals to play a national power on ESPN. I hate that guy.

College basketball in the state of Wisconsin will be hurt forever by his selfishness. This is right up there with UK-IU being discontinued.
It's really simple -- Division 1 schools Play Division 1 Schools.
Minor league schools play minor league schools.
That's why Marquette should not play UWM -- period. Same reason we should not play UW-GB, The Little Sisters of the Poor, Richmond and St. Thomas.
We need to play The Ohio State University, Duke, Wisconsin, Illinois, Stanford, North Carolina, Texas, etc.

Well played (my assumption is you don't like teal). Remember, however, this would all be Broeker's doing and LW would have no input. :P

We still need to have guaranteed wins on the schedule. 5-6 games against sub-100 level opposition are a good thing (as long as they aren't sub-250) because you have to get 9-10 wins out of the non-con.
But just because you need that level of game doesn't mean you have to play lose-lose games like Milwaukee and Green Bay. There are plenty of 100-250 teams outside the state that would be much better choices for Marquette.
Watch the Urinal Sentinel rip us for ducking them.
UWM had not agreed to a contract with us. It is kind of like Newbill not sending in his papers. Drag your feet and MU will find a better option.

I believe we gave GB a 2-for-1 deal, and UW-M feels they deserved the same because they are in-state. Of course, the situations are completely different. Playing in Green Bay gets us more exposure for kids further out in the state as it is actually a different TV market. Playing across the street only gets us less money. We also have the connection with Wardle.
If we only kept one of the two series, the GB one makes a lot more sense, though I still think both should be buy games. Either way, I'm not bothered having UW-Milwaukee off the schedule. There are literally 30 or so teams that would give us the same positives we get for playing Milwaukee without any of the negatives.

Adding that there is as talented a crop of nationally ranked Milwaukee preps coming up, and playing tOSU on a national stage vs UWM in a dead empty arena on TWC is a far better selling point for MU at this time.

And there is, unquestionably and undoubtedly, that.
When you look at the upcoming Milwaukee crop, we're in on everyone of note. We have Burton and Wilson committed, Looney and Stone both seem to be at least interested, and McKay is on campus today. We don't need to increase our profile in Milwaukee whatsoever. But those Milwaukee guys will definitely enjoy watching us play this game more than they would a home blowout of the Panthers, and the rest of the country will also take note. Honestly, there's not a game on our schedule aside from maybe the finals of the Maui Invitational (if we make it that far) that will bring us close to the exposure this game will.

I feel that you're being unfair to Richmond which actually makes the NCAA field frequently. Maybe we could substitute McNeese State, instead.

We seem to be good at that.
