Looks like the pony express has arrived.
Seriously, it is such a joke. Couple hours after the press release and someone wakes Enlund from his nap...
It's so bad it makes me wonder...... Is it Enlund? Or his bosses at the Urinal?
Oh no, only 5 free articles this month. What if I want to read stories a day and a half late?
It has to be Enlund. Rosiak was soooooo much better.
Remember his open gym reports?
Yes, I remember TR's coverage. I just wonder if the powers that be at the Urinal have made the decision that MU coverage doesn't matter instead of Enlund being slow on the draw.
He comes across like he's reporting on a common council meeting, just puttin in my time.
It's an assistant coach hiring in late May. NO ONE cares, except us MU Hoops super-geeks and maybe a few delusional Illini fans.

True, but Rosiak would have had an interview. :(
He is supposed to care....it's his job.
If nobody cares why cover the beat at all?

Yea, it's not like we are expecting Enlund to be Don Walker and write 3 articles about a trivial event. I think we can expect more than a copy and paste job from the AP report. Rosiak constantly went above and beyond when compared to Enlund. What else does he cover? UWM men's basketball too?

A couch in the back office.

Why did Chicago's three major papers and ESPN Chicago feel it was important to cover this story YESTERDAY then? Same reason that the JS did not cover the #1 prep player in the country competing in Milwaukee against the best crop of locals in years while SI puts the same kid on the cover in the middle of baseball season, calling him the biggest prep standout since Lebron. Yet, the in town media will throw an army of reporters at pushing match in a bar.

I thought Rosiak got ripped in here for his coverage too, guess I am getting old and misremembered, not the first time

No you're absolutely right. People used to get upset that he was just a mouthpiece for the school, offering verbal fellatio at every opportunity. They would complain that he never had any hard hitting pieces that really dug through all of the pr of the program. So apparently distance really does make the heart grow fonder. He did post news stories quicker and more often though.

...says the guy that registered in 2010.
TR was a fan favorite while he was on the MU beat. He definitely wore the hat of MU mouthpiece from time to time, but that's part of the reason he was able to get so close to the athletic department and do such great reporting.

Valid, I haven't been around forever, those are just some of the things I remembered people complaining about.

No worries bud. I just re-read my post and it reads a little harsh, which was unintended.
We verbally fellated TR plenty, though :)

I don't think the JS has good sports coverage for 2 reasons:
#1 PACKERS! It's a $ maker, and they will go to the well as many times as they can. Doesn't matter if it is "newsworthy", it only matters if people read it. Honestly, a story examining if the Packers should sign T.O. would get far more attention than a story about HS hoops, even though the story about T.O. might be entirely conjecture without merit. PACKERS!
#2 Resources: The paper is in decline and just doesn't have the secondary level reporters that can write pieces on relatively niche stories like HS hoops. PACKERS!

If only we could get Donald Driver to take his Dancing With the Stars trophy to a high school basketball game featuring Deonte Burton and Duane Wilson...

Exactly.
Honestly, Enlund often just re-writes/prints MU press releases. At some point, MU probably won't have a "writer", but will just have "staff" that does a tiny game recap and box score. If they make the final 4, then the columnists will chime in with something.
There is a small demand for MU coverage, but probably not enough to pay somebody's salary anymore.
