Surprised this is the first i heard of this. MU athletics tweeted it out and says he's out 6 months. That really sucks and sets him way back for next year
Luckily we have a dearth of players at his position(s).
So does this date back to his injury in December? Interesting that that they are just taking care of it now, but six months gives him the entire year next year...but no summer ball.
Juan Anderson Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Open gym after the season.
Can you say red-shirt, at best he will be last man on the roster this upcoming year. PT time was going to be hard anyway, now forget about it. It makes sense for him to do it,
It might. No need to make that decision anytime soon.

With all the foolish redshirt talk that takes place on these boards, this is a situation where it could really make sense (depending on how his rehab goes and if he's willing to take the RS year).
Six months of rehab puts him ready at the start of the season (end of November). So he might be ready.
Hiroshima.
The plan for now is simple: Rehab and get better/stronger. They could be saying he's ready to go in 4 or 5 months. They could be saying rehab is going slow in 6 months. Roster could change between now and November.
Too many variables to call it now - if he's healthy and ready to play and can help the team this year, play him. If he's not able to, don't.

With a shoulder injury he won't be able to power lift the entire summer/fall. He may be ready health wise but he needs to get stronger to be able to contribute. To bad.
Yeah, no serious basketball activity until the beginning of the season is going to be rough to try cracking the rotation. Let's see how it goes, but redshirt could make a lot of sense.

Not likely. This is a kid who really needed to put in hard work during the offseason. Unfortunately this is a big setback for him.
Think back to the Junior injury too, he didn't have a surgery but he insisted on playing even after a significant injury. In both cases I would have preferred a red shirt from both due to their small contributions in what essentially was a wasted year of a scholarship player

I was thinking the same for the delay in surgery, but realized if he had it two months ago, it would take away from classroom time. Wouldn't want that to happen.....

In the history of sports medicine, has there ever been an example of "unsuccessful surgery"? ::)
On a related note, its reassuring that the rehabilitation process began immediately. ;)
only when the patient dies

Haha, that got depressing real quick.
We knew he injured his shoulder during the season and missed some games. Did we know he had surgery during the season?

Ask Greg Oden.
This is really just a cover for the new academic requirements. Rehabbing begins at Gold's Gym instead of The Al because he is an underclassman.

Bummer.
Ugh... for shooting effectiveness following shoulder surgery, please see Cubillan, David.
This is the same shoulder injury that he was having trouble with during the season, right?
I'm surprised they waited a month and a half to have the surgery.

No. He had minor surgery back in December, and re-injured the same shoulder in an open gym session recently.
EDIT: Re-injured the same area of his body, don't believe it was the same injury (fracture in December 2011).

Ask Greg Oden.
I'm willing to bet that Greg's surgery was pronounced "successful" immediately after its completion. What color signifies "sardonic", BTW?

Either this should have been in teal or you meant "plethora".

haha, indeed.
Man, my head is totally clouded this week... extra long days at work.
He wouldn't qualify for a medical redshirt, would he?

I've had one of those dearth/plethora mix-up days. Good times.

No. I think he would have to use his regular redshirt first anyway.
So the article calls him a Soph. So Juan passed his classes! (check)
Buzz commented on how disappointed he was for Juan. He must be returning (check)
Juan never tweeted about this directly. He must be really unhappy at MU (OMG)
2 out of 3 aint bad.

There is no such thing.
Buzz needs to use his last schollie on a JUCO switchable now. Having only STaylor to back up Jamil at the 4 isn't going to be enough.
