Title: Carson Desrosier transfers
Post by: Dawson Rental on May 19, 2012, 06:08:36 PM
The situation at Wake Forest continues its downward slide, as Carson Desrosier has decided to transfer.  MU was in the final few schools for Carson when he came out of high school.  After he turned us down, Buzz turned his attention to Davante, I believe.  Buzz will get opportunities to see him for the remainder of his career, as he has transferred to Providence.  I've got to think that MU was not interested for him to land there.  He did not exactly set the ACC on fire while at Wake Forest.

I don't think his family envisioned him playing at Marquette the first time around so I doubt there was interest in Marquette this time either.

the next email campaign to Larry should be the saga of Wake Forest University since the passing of Skip Prosser.  what a trainwreck.

Actually, Dino Gaudio didn't do a bad job in a tough situation, but the AD wanted to make the change and hired a friend.  Big mistake.

Speaking of Gaudio, how has he not been named in any coaching jobs over the past few years? Is it his decision or something else that I'm missing?

At the time, the story line was that Dino Gaudio was doing an excellent job recruiting, having very successful regular seasons, and was let go because the team failed to meet expectations in the NCAA tournament.  The AD Ron Wellman was accused of handing Jeff Bzdelik, a great job because they were friends from their days together at Northwestern.  At the time, I thought it was particularly unfair that Bzdelik was hired after Gaudio had put together a very good 2010 recruiting class.

Some people are now saying that it was Bzdelik who did Wellman a favor by leaving an NCAA tournament-caliber team and a NBA first round pick, Alec Burks, at Colorado to take over a program that was out-of-control and needed serious cleaning up.  Apparently, Gaudio was putting together good recruiting classes by going after top players that other programs had shied away from due to character red flags, and it blew up in his face.  That would explain why Gaudio is still cooling his heels two years later.

I don't know...seems like quite a few schools have few qualms about hiring coaches with checkered reputations if the results follow.

Are you talking about Calipari

He's not the only one, but he's a fine example. Kelvin Sampson and Bruce Pearl both found jobs after having rather sizable reputations as to their recruiting tactics. Tim Floyd and Steve Fisher are both still coaching today. If you can deliver recruits and wins, someone will be willing to take that chance.

Winning cures all.

As a former resident of Winston-Salem in the Mugsy Bogues days I continue to follow Wake (2nd favorite team) and I was hoping for Gaudio's firing when it happened. Like many schools, he was promoted to HC partly to keep the recruits that had committed but his teams peaked too early and flamed out by March.

I'n not convinced Bzdelik is the answer, things sure continue to be rough for Wake but Derosier does seem to be a disapointment so far, I thought he had a lot of potential when he was a freshman but haven't seen it since.

Bzdelik did not have a bad track record.  He had a long NBA career as an assistant coach, was hired as head coach of the Nuggets...lead them from a .207 team his first year to a first round NBA playoff appearance his second.  Was fired early in his third year.

He lead Air Force to their first NCAA tournament appearance ever.

Went to a woeful Colorado program and recruited a number of the players that were on this year's Pac 12 tournament champion.

Not sure he will last at Wake Forest, but I didn't think it was a poor hire at the time.

Winning cures almost all.

Fixed.  Winning can't cure frequent criminal problems with players and anything more than rare incidents that get a school bad press on the front page of newspapers.
