We already have Deonte and Duane who are 2 of Buzz's top recruits he has gotten. If we add Jameel McKay, we have one of the best if not the best Buzz recruiting class, with 2 top 100-50 players and one of the top JUCO players in the country being a Jamil Wilson clone. ALL being Milwaukee guys.
It's far more important to have a national recruiting footprint for a number of reasons. An all Milwaukee class is bad in many ways and sounds too much like a Mike Deane Special.

If the players he is getting are high quality players then they can come from China for all I care. If we happen to have a solid class loaded with outstanding kids from milwaukee, then great. A Mike Deane special would be a bunch of mid major players.
Respectfully disagree Warthog. Bring in the best players available, don't care where they are from. MKE is hot right now with a handful of great prospects. Like anything, it's not guaranteed to stay that way, so take advantage and use our hometown cred as long as we can.

Having kids form as diverse a geography as possible benefits the program and the university in many ways. I would love to have a class of 5 stars from Milwaukee but feel we would still be penalizing ourselves. I am the interface with the Silicon Valley VC community so I am often in the Bay Area. The local papers have reports of Marquette because of JA.
They won't for much longer. ;)

A Hiroshima reference? I have heard Juan is thrilled with being at Marquette.
Lots of quality Milwaukee players on MU will drag in more non-MU basketball fans from Milwaukee and the surrounding area. If will increase interest in the program locally.
I sure hope Buzz won't turn down talent like McKay, Looney, and Stone simply because MU should recruit nationally.

Screw local media....same as others...dont care where they come from. if the best players are from Milwaukee then great, if not thats ok too.
Illinois having all illinois kids during the Flyin illini days didnt seem to hurt them get attention. indiana teams with all indiana kids etc.
If you have a really good team u are in every paper and on every website in America.
Also think it will help with MU attendance is we have some high flyin locals and will help lock down future Milwauke talent.

Like to see the evidence of that. Not much on MU in San Jose, S.F. or Oakland papers over the last year. And certainly no evidence of Juan connection causing local papers to report on Marquette. Maybe his REALLY local paper?
Recruit the best you can, and when we are in the Final Four, every paper in the country will have reports on MU.

And if Wilson and Burton are both McDonald's All-Americans? What if McKay is the top JUCO in the nation? Would you rather have a 2-star project center from California, a 3-star guard from Texas, and a 3-star forward from New York so we can have a national footprint, or the type of players that can bring Marquette another Final Four or more?
It's a silly argument. Get the best players from wherever. And, if he's worthy, always get the best from your own backyard. That's Recruiting 101. Carolina and Duke recruit everywhere, but they go to war for the local kid.

Flintstones seemed to work out pretty well for Sparty
need to lock up your backyard first. Any QUALIFIED high major D I talent from Milwaukee I'd hope we'd land 8 out of 10 times. No Marshall Williams to NC State scenarios.

Classes of 2014 and 2015 have must get local players. Also know of some middle school kids with high ratings.

Offer them now and call the media to alert them!

Buzz will always recruit the best player available. If they happen to come from Milwaukee over the course of the next few years, so be it. Go for it.
If a better player is available from Timbucktoo or East Bumf**k, Buzz will recruit him.
If Buzz happens to recruit a high caliber group of Milwaukee players, and they win, perhaps the creates an aura that players from outside of Milwaukee want to be a part of....break into. Just speculating.
All that matters is winning. Winning, it's not the only thing, it's everything. Who cares where they come from.
I don't care where they come from if they can play, but ideally we would have a mix of local / regional talent and other players from recruiting hotbeds such as Texas that can help us develop other pipelines. Overall Buzz has done a pretty good job of this. With the amount of national TV exposure Marquette has, they don't need to get a bunch of guys from other parts of the country to to stay relevant nationally.
I think a good model would be Georgetown's recruiting under JT3. They've always had a good portion of their roster from the mid-Atlantic (Wright, Freeman, Clark, Sims, Hibbert, Green) but have been able to bring in top notch players from other parts of the country (Monroe, Wallace, H. Thompson). They've been able to get kids to stay home while still competing for talent nationwide and maintaining the national profile of the program. Buzz is getting some very good Milwaukee talent (hopefully more to come) and some players from Chicago and Minnesota with Lockett.
