Love his game and potential. Hate that we are listed with yet another transfer. Denmark's smelling funny, or something like that.
Gordon has a very high ceiling. High level performer for St. Pat's out here in Jersey. Would be a nice addition.
Another guard! 6' 3", he was the leading scorer and rebounder for Western Kentucky, and third team All Sun Belt Conference. he has a twin brother who is incarcerated in New Jersey who he wants to be closer to.
Marquette is one of 8 schools he is interested in... I guess I would put a lot of weight on this one... ::)

He's a high major player, and Marquette is the best school on his list. I would.....

I would..... lose Trent Lockett's number?

Lockett would be here for 2012 only, while Gordon would be eligible to play in 2013. (Yes, I understand Gordon would use a schollie in 2012.)
It's just interesting is all I'll say.
Isn't it obvious, folks? We are going to bring in seven transfers and send everybody packing who has a J in their name.
Recruiting SG transfers that will be eligible in each of the next two years.
Not hard to see where this is going. I have a feeling that those ripping muguru may be eating some crow.
From the statistical perspective, they all look like they'd be about just as good in the top 25% of all D1 players when they took the court. Value Add says:
Philip Nolan projects to be 823rd best player (of 4000) next year.
Derrick Gordon projects to be the 833rd best player when he would take the court in two years.
Trent Lockett projects to be the 1043rd player next year, but that is based on being 1428th this year playing with the dreadful ASU team. His freshman year he was the 887th best and Pomeroy says he played almost identical to Wesley Matthews as a freshman. His sophomore year he was the 496th best player in the land, so for me he was almost on Matthews trajectory and then suddenly was on the 3rd worst turnover team in the country.
With just my numbers, I'd take four years of Nolan if we ended up with one extra spot – particularly if it was Durley's spot – including two after Otule and Gardner are gone – but it's a close call.
I certainly believe last year was a fluke bad situation for Lockett and that he would be easily the best player we could add for 2013.
Three nice potential additions if we end up wanting/needing additions, but with three players with almost identical potential value to MU, I'm sure Buzz has a firm handle on what each can do.
Nolan is going to Prep for a year so the best way to add Nolan is to take Lockett and save a spot for 2013. Regarding Gordan he looks like a good player but unless we get a surprise transfer (Rotation player from last year) and we miss on Lockett I would rather roll this Spot to 2013.
Also when people talk about EFF.
The only thing not to like is 3.2 TO's in 35 minutes. Vander turn it over about the same as him but shoots about .100 % lower when you facator in 3's.
2011-12 34.9 4.3-8.6 .498 0.8-2.0 .412 3.6-5.1 .711 5.8 2.2 0.5 1.5 2.6 3.2 13.0
2010-11 30.7 5.0-9.8 .516 0.3-1.1 .323 3.0-4.6 .662 5.3 2.5 0.5 0.7 2.4 2.4 13.4
Derrick Gordans stats:He turns the ball over at high rate as well but again shoots about .150 lower when you factor in 3's
2011-12 33.3 3.6-9.8 .367 0.7-2.7 .266 3.9-5.6 .689 6.7 2.1 0.3 0.7 2.3 2.8 11.8
wings and guards that shoot 50% in college and bad teams are hard to find.

Unless you watched every game, thre is no way you can quantify a player's turnovers. Obviously, if you travel or get the ball stolen from you the turnover is your fault. However, the turnover can be charged to you, when it is a teammates fault. A play is called and you pass the ball to the place the player is susposed to be, when he decides to go another way would be an example of this. One of the reasons Taylor's turnover rate was so low was that UW's players were well drilled on were to be in UW's offense. Taylor knew were they were suppose to be and that were usually were they were suppose to be.

Without a transfer, an additional scholarship is not available for Nolan, Lockett or Gordan. If Otule returns for a 6th year, MU would be one over with Burton and Wilson committed for '13. If a transfer occurs and Lockett takes that place for '12-13, that would not open up a spot for Nolan, if Otule returns for the 6th year. It would be used for Burton/Wilson.

Then why on earth would he be interested in Marquette? Bowling Green is about 50 miles closer to Plainfield, NJ (where Gordon is from) than Milwaukee is. Granted, the kid seems like a very hard worker and a good player, but it seems like Seton Hall would make a lot more sense.

I think you meant 500 miles closer. I agree that Seton Hall would be most logical given the surrounding circumstances though.

Nope...Bowling Green to Plainfield is 834 miles, Milwaukee to Plainfield is 881. Really a horse apiece, but if he did come to Marquette, I think it'd be pretty clear his interest was to get back to the NCAA tourney and compete at a higher level rather than being closer to home. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Sorry, thought we were talking Bowling Green, OH for some reason. You are absolutely correct.

@GoodmanCBS Did he clear that with Bo Ryan?
Gordon picked UMass.

Thanks for stopping by... cute. Been here longer than most, actually.
Every time the transfer subject comes up, you turn into an absolute prick. Why so combative?
Not combative, just totally annoyed and sick of the constant ADHD, kitten-chasing-a-laser-beam mentality that every tweet/FB post etc... means multiple transfers, doom, Hiroshima, Thunderdome, devolving into SLU, etc.
It's the Internet age, there is going to be many players with MU on their "lists." Maybe we're in on multiple SGs simply to have multiple options for the one spot Jones transfer left open.
Muguru might end looking pretty smart in next couple of weeks. I am hoping that all the transfer interest from players is they like our style of play and not because we need them. I would love to have our pick of a transfer or Juco every year and have them fill in missing pieces and not be replacement for our guys leaving.
We are now a few weeks into the guru prediction and still hoping he is wrong. I am sure like many on here I have heard a million rumors. It will be nice when Memorial Day comes and all the dust has settled. That said, not sure why all the anti guru guys get so cut to the bone that he is wrong.
I want MU on EVERY strong player's list..., and then the luxury of choosing! Transfers are fine with me and were never looked at askance in the Jimmy Boylan days. Don't know why they are now. Sure there are more transfers, but my gut feel is that we don't get many compared to schools looking for them. Nor do we have many leaving compared to the Rick Majerus days when he would yank schollies two per year on upper classmen.
I appreciate the suspicions based on overheard comments, and without same the board would become the bored, the key is to consider that it is speculation. Always hungry for a tidbit of recruiting news I keep coming back and suffering the assumptions, waiting for the truth. That's what the board is about off season.
Just putting some pieces together here, and maybe some "insiders" can confirm or deny. It seems all the interest from transfers, random late blooming seniors and foreign players was because of the inevitable turnover that muguru was talking about. Buzz and the staff seemed to be frantically getting in front of every available player that they could.
Yet, we've now seen a few of these guys pick their spots- and they are all well below MU in stature. Gordon to UMass, the big Polish kid to Gonzaga, the Serbian kid to Nebraska (maybe), that Larsen kid to GW.
Could it be because all of MU's "issues" are getting straightened out behind the scenes and we no longer have the scholarships that the staff once thought were going to be open?
Is that plausible?
I could have told you Derrick Gordon wasn't coming to MU, theULTIMATEwarrior's dad never had anything to say about him.
