LSU coach Trent Johnson is set to be named TCU's new basketball coach Monday, sources confirmed Friday.
He will replace Jim Christian, who left for the head coaching vacancy at Ohio University.
Johnson has coached four years at LSU, where he was 67-64 and took the Tigers to the NCAA tournament in his first season. He's coming off an 18-14 season and an NIT appearance after LSU finished eighth in the SEC.
Johnson is making around $1.2 million, according to reports. Christian made just shy of $600,000 at TCU before leaving to take the head coaching job at Ohio earlier this week.
Johnson, 55, coached for four seasons at Stanford, making the NCAA tournament three times (includes a Sweet 16 appearance in 2008).
He was with Nevada for five seasons before going to Stanford. He made the Sweet 16 in 2007.
Johnson's job will be to lead TCU into the Big 12, the program's new conference effective next academic year.
TCU hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 1998, when Billy Tubbs was the coach. That team lost in the first round as a No. 5 seed to Florida State.
Meanwhile, SMU waits.........
Who knew TCU's HC position was a STEPPING STONE for Ohio U?!
Tommy Ammaker also declined SMU to stay at Harvard.
Buzz to LSU?

Buzz to LSU?
It would give him a chance to win at the BC next year...
Evidently, Trent Johnson was on the hot seat at LSU and walked before he was pushed.
Exactly Murs. Actually smart move because it gives three or four years before the heat gets too hot again. For many coaches lateral or even slightly backwards jobs is great job security.
So, TCU loses its coach who moves before he is fired and replaces him with another coach who is moving before he is fired. Interesting, it indicates that TCU is consistent in what they look for in a coach.

It was reported in this morning's
Fort Worth Star Telegram that the TCU AD (Del Conte) spoke to over 50-60 coaches during his search including Buzz, Crean and IU asst. Sreve McClain. They also mentioned that Jamie Dixon was approached.
Maybe they were just asking Buzz for a reference?

Or:
Buzz: Hello?
AD: Hi Buzz, Del Conte here. y'all interested in coming back to texas and coach at TCU?
AD: Hello? Hello?
I could get through at least 100 coaches in a day that way.
