These rankings are based on the last 10 years. I wanted it to be more indicative of where a program is at now so instead of just averaging the last 10 years I made the years increasingly important. If you add numbers 1-10 you get 55 so 2003 (year 1) is worth 1/55, 2004 is worth 2/55, etc. 2012 is worth 10/55 which is a little over 18%. I think we all know Pomeroy's ratings aren't perfect and the first thing people will notice is Wisconsin at 3, but I think this gives a pretty good idea of where Marquette stands. If somebody wants to know the top 25 if the last 10 years are averaged out evenly I could post that too.

We're only 7th in the Big East? I woulda thought we'd be higher than that...
6th actually now that the season is over ;D
What I'd like to see is a straight average (no smoothing) of the last for years under Crean with the first four years under Buzz. Since Crean's years would include the first four years of the three amigos, he should have an advantage, but I bet that Buzz's average comes out ahead.
That just shows how many good teams the Big East has. 7th out of 16 doesn't seem that great but 17th out of 345 does. Let's compare the accomplishments of the Big East teams for the last 10 years:
Team Team Louisville Syracuse Pittsburgh Connecticut Georgetown WVU Marquette Notre Dame Villanova
| Regular season champions 2 3 3 3 2 0 1 0 1
| Tournament champions 4 2 2 2 1 1 0 0 0
| NCAA appearances 9 8 9 8 6 7 8 6 7
| Sweet 16 4 5 4 5 2 4 3 1 4
| Final 4 2 1 0 3 1 1 1 0 1
| NCAA Champions 0 1 0 2 0 0 0 0 0

I don't really see a case for Marquette being better than the schools ahead of them and if Villanova wasn't terrible for the last year and a half they would be ahead of us too. However, I think we are knocking on the door and have a real opportunity to jump up near the top in the next few years.

I assume you meant first three years of the three amigos.
Crean (2005-2008) .8548 We only had a Pomeroy rating of .7087 our last year in Conference USA
Crean (2006-2008) .9035 Crean's three Big East years
Buzz (2009-2012) .8898
Curiosity got the best of me so here's the top 25 of the last decade per Pomeroy if you simply average the last 10 years.

If you compare the two top 25's you can see how bad Ohio State was when Thad Matta took over and how Illinois has been on a downswing since they made the championship game in 2005
