interesting... would be cool to have his name among the Big East Coaches in a few years. And having a solid SMU program to replace the departed teams is not a bad thing. doesnt sound like much more than rumors right now, but i did hear him on Mike and Mike yesterday and he sounded very interested in getting back into college coaching.
i wonder how effective a 71 year old coach can be at bringing a program up from the bottom? i would have figured he'd want to go out to UCLA or something once that opens up...
Did SMU18 float this rumor to sporting news? I think SMU is just throwing names around and seeing who jumps. Good thing we have a message board that maintains an even keel
Larry Brown will take any job that is offered to him, he just wants to get back into coaching. I remember hearing he was considering taking a high school job.
I do agree though that he would be nice to have in the Big East and I'm sure he can still coach with the best of them, but can he recruit? Other than this past year when he was hanging around a few programs as an onlooker he's been away from the college game for almost 30 years.

I bet that message board devoted to all things Larry Brown IS BLOWIN' UP! HOLLA!
I actually think that would be a great hire for them, if they can get their marketing department on board.
It would be a great re-branding of their hoops program.
Larry probably has about 3 years of coaching left in him (maybe 4), so you could use him to jumpstart some the program and hopefully backfill his seat with somebody better than you could get right now.
The key to this would be the right assistants and the right athletic department to maximize the window they have him.
SMU just wants attention now. Larry Brown would start next year, get tired/bored/frustrated and quit before the Big East season even began in the 2013-14 season. He's only done that 8 or 9 times now.
SMU is the only place he hasn't coached yet, so why not?

I wonder if IWB knows anything about this.
Word here in KC is that he will be sitting on the KU bench with Self next year.
Gee that's a big step down. Why don't they go for another big name coach with a suffocating administration? ::)

He must be the coaching staff liaison with the cheerleading squad
