Is it me, or do you guys get the impression that the student body at Marquette is extremely whiny? Every few months someone goes and writes a letter to the editor of the school paper on how it is "unfair" that the basketball teams gets all the publicity. Or how it is "Unfair" that that the basketball players get their own dorms and dont live with the students.
Anyone else worried that these are the type of students that LW and father Pilarz are pandering too?

No.
Considering that the same thing has been happening for decades, no, not really.
If LW and Pillarz are stupid enough not to realize that those players bring million of dollars in every year, and need to be treated differently than your average Journaism student, then the bBall program is already screwed anyway.
I dont understand why anyone on the campus would not thank the Players everyday for making their school much important than it is.
Life isn't fair, and MU does a service to these people by illustrating that fact.
Someday, these whiners will get something that others don't because they went to Marquette.....few, if any, will have a problem with it.

Not at all. In fact, I'm thrilled that we have a diverse enough student body to both support the program (although attendance threads will tell you otherwise) and keep it in check. I love hoops, but I hate it when it becomes the official religion (see Joe Paterno) of a campus.
Hoops gets tons of great coverage. I'm not worried about a few non-fans expressing their rightful opinions.
Since we are now complaining about students, does the SMU thread get to die?

Im just worried that the Non-Fans, and the loud minority are what the good Father and LW are pandering too.

LW should be in direct opposition to those people, as any AD would be. That's what doesn't make sense to me.
Vocal minority often dictates the decisions that affect the majority. I have heard a ton of program bashing from a couple of people this season. They continually bash VB and others over and over again. I do worry that the PC crowd influences decisions at MU. We used to be the Warriors didn't we?

ding ding ding. For a very large proportion of the student body, attending MU is/was basically a birth rite. I'm not even saying that's necessarily horrible or inferring it was any different for me, but more or less pointing out that likely every basketball player at MU overcome much worse odds and worked much harder to get to MU than a a 3.3 high school student from Barrington or Whitepeople's Bay whose parents are flipping the bill.

Nobody's pandering to anyone. If anyone around here is pandering, it's the work of a few "rogue" users pandering to scoopers' paranoia. Example:

It is you. I think you're taking a letter, or letters, from what, .1% of the students (and there are always going to be .1% uppity/negative nancy types, anyway), and extrapolating that into being the majority of students. One or two letters from a student body of 12,000 does not make for a "whiny" student body. If you polled, I'd bet a lot of money on upwards of >90% of students being totally supportive of the basketball players.

I see you have swallowed hook, line, and sinker the bulls*** narrative that has been spun in a couple other threads.

Is anybody worried that we have the same type of "the students suck" threads here every year?
- They don't drink enough
- They study too much
- They aren't loud enough at games
- They are too critical of the players
- etc. etc.
I get the feeling the moderators are pandering to these internet nerds in an effort to get more posts/page views.

Nobody likes hippies. Not even LW or Pilarz.
LabWarrior ....LOL...Great post. My point was two people made more negative noise to me than 100 did on positive side. Why are we not called the Warriors anymore?

Whitepeople's doesn't even sound right.
Careful .. one of your friendly neighborhood moderators lives in Whitefish Bay, and he has an itchy ban hammer finger.

Because "Warrior" could apply to any Native American tribe... the Potawatomi wanted something that was more specific to their heritage.

Top 10 Things I like to whine about as an MU student...
10. Dining Hall food...next time you're on campus skip Real Chili and get someone to swipe you into McCormick. Experience of a lifetime.
9. My time in the bathroom as a result of #10.
8. The "super polite" DPS officers that greet me when I roll in around 230 am.
7. Watching an 60 year old woman attempt the Anything's Possible half court shot and not make it to the 3 point line.
6. Vander's finesse around the rim.
5. Why didn't 10,000 students show up at the game tonight?
4. The cops raiding every bar in the city instead of tackling real crime.
3. The walk from Mashuda to Johnston Hall or better yet the Bradley Center is lovely in January.
2. Not being able to hop in a car with 5 of my friends and drive to New Orleans to watch MU play this weekend.
1. Coming on MUScoop and reading about how much I whine.
Have at it. I'm gunna call Whine-1-1, hopefully the Whambulance shows up soon.

The only negative letter in the MU trib concerning the bball team getting too much publicity was written
by the editor. If you had been paying attention to the students this year, you'd have seen this--a pro-basketball article among many others:

Anyone ever give a comparison of the distance the walk from say McCormick or Schroeder is as compared to the walk to camp Randall or their hoops stadium from various points on campus. I have never heard anyone complain about that walk. How about other campuses? Is it just cause we are in a city so it "should" be closer?
That Mary Ann from Heiser is a Crafty little minx. Having a 60 year old shoot the half court shot for a car. Freaking terrible Heiser just terrible!!

Guess they learned when someone actually made the shot last year. Of all the games I was at this past year, not one person hit backboard or rim. Most fell short of the free throw line. Honestly, it was embarrassing. And you could tell looking at most of the contestants that they had no chance.
