Title: A perfect storm
Post by: Clam Crowder on March 22, 2012, 11:33:59 PM
Junior, Foul Trouble Early
Jae, Bad shooting night
DJO, invisible (not very assertive at all)
Jamil-Good game, played hard
Todd-Great Game
Vander-Transfer now
Gardner-Not at his best tonight

Buzz-Press should have been on earlier. Gave us life for a bit

Next year Todd will take a step forward, Jamil will as well and they will be the DJO and Jae of this year (fingers crossed). I loved this team I thought we would win tonight, tough to swallow

I love our team, I have loved our team all year. We played very poorly tonight...I am not going to say anything else...I am just speechless. We could have won if our boys showed up and I feel let down and I should feel let down.

Junior, Foul Trouble Early
Jae, Shot awful
DJO, invisible (not very assertive at all)
Jamil-Good game, played hard
Todd-Great Game
Vander-Transfer now
Gardner-Too fat, time to slim down and learn to play the 4

Buzz-Press should have been on earlier, and time outs can't be all gone that early

So people have been criticizing Buzz for 4 years for not calling time outs, now he burns them too soon.   Just can't win.

Buzz did the best he could tonight and the guys worked their asses off tonight and all season for that matter.

They did work their asses off, but I just feel like they could have played much much better tonight. I don't what happened, just invisible.

Horrific performance by everyone. Bad timing, but it happens.

Not Buzz's fault
This is all on Jae, DJO and Junior who officially crap themselves.

Horrible poster.  You are a loser.

Just couldn't hit shots tonight. And we got back in the game with 2 minutes to go. If we get that flagrant call we might pull it out, but you can't rely on the refs.  Have to hit your open looks, that was the difference tonight.

Nice post. Perfect summation.

Buzz- time outs can't be all gone that early

If you believe this, then this applies:

Glad to see the morons coming back out of the cracks.

If Buzz doesn't take the timeouts we probably lose by 20.

can someone explain to me the rationale in that non-flagrant call? I am just curious on the explanation...

We didn't make shots. Jae must have had 4 shots go in and out. Shoot just below average and we win. Not our night, but I love this team.

I think they claimed it was inadvertent...the rule says that's still a flagrant 1

Jae had a few 3s rim out...just not his day

Yup.  This is it.  We can dump on this team or make excuses for this team, but this is what happened.  Sucks, I know.

Must have ruled that he didn't actually make contact with Jamil. Only possible explanation.

very interesting the way they were absolutely certain real quick that it wasn't a flag. I don't put this game on the refs, I was just waiting for that one break that never came for the warriors in this game, and I thought that was going to be it...

I agree- specially because Valentine had just blown the whistle on DJO for an inadvertant slap to the face

Every three was halfway down for Jae, it's just heartbreaking to see a team we all loved so much lose like that.

This loss hurts so much more compared to last year.  UNC was a better team.  I think if MU would have shot the ball anywhere close to average, MU would have beat Florida.  There's no use crying about spilled milk.  This was a great season nonetheless and it was fun while it lasted.

Jamil waited half a beat to snap is head back and take the dive.  I think he got hit, but more likely grazed.

Still by rule it is a flagrant 1

This was the real perfect storm:

On Dec 7th, Chris Otule tore his ACL chasing a loose ball near halfcourt.
On Jan 28th, Devante Gardner sprained his knee.  He would return, but clearly was not the player he had become to that point.

At the beginning of the season, we discussed who we could least afford to lose, and consensus was Otule.  Otule/Gardner wasn't even something we could fathom.  We played valiantly as "Marquette 3.0/4.0", but I don't think what we've been the past couple of months were as good as what we would have developed into had we stayed healthy.

That being said, I couldn't be prouder of this group (which is why this loss hurts even more).  On December 8th, tell me Gardner is going to be severely limited with a knee injury and that we'd finish 2nd in the BEast and make the S16 and I'd laugh in your face.

Just re-watched it. He definitely made contact. No idea how they could have missed that. What can you do? At least Jamil wasn't seriously injured.

What I have trouble digesting is the fact that we sacrifice possessions to "play fast".  Teams send guys back to prevent easy buckets and we insist on plowing theme over or taking I'll advised shots.  Why don't we pull the ball out and see what we can generate.  Pisses me off.  There is a difference between forcing tempo and playing dumb.  We take shots with a high degree of difficulty too often.  Love the team hate the blemishes! Hate them because they are avoidable!

My point is that his reaction was not in response to being hit, so therefore you couldn't be sure he was.  Since it wasn't called at the time I can see why they wouldn't make a huge game-turning call like that without absolute proof.

If the rule has any meaning then that was the scenario. We should have at least gotten the flag aren't 1 but it doesn't matter now...

It was pretty clear on the replay, which they watched before not making the call.  Anyway, total frustration watching shot after shot fail to fall.
