Just for fun...
Norfolk State plays Mizzou today. If Norfolk State does the unthinkable and pulls off the upset, how do you feel about playing them for the third time in one year - especially since they nearly had our number in the Paradise Jam?
I think I'd almost rather see Mizzou since it is so hard to beat a team three times in a year, though one could argue our team is very different now than it was in the Paradise Jam.
Norfolk St. Don't be silly.

Michigan State knocked off the Badgers three times this year. If you think how good Ryan is a coach and how much better the Badgers are versus Norfolk State, and it is pretty clear we are Norfolk State fans today.
Non-starter. The reason Norfolk State kept it close the second time is because we didn't see them coming. We only saw a team that we had just destroyed a week earlier and we would steamroll by at least 20. Credit to NSU's coach for drawing up a great gameplan that killed our transition game and limited our athleticism. It almost worked, and something similar might actually work against Mizzou. But it wouldn't work against us again, especially not with the transformation our team has undergone since November.
And for what it's worth...even if NSU pulls off the huge upset, I don't see any way they get past the second round. Maybe they could keep it close against Virginia, but there's no way they'd beat Florida. There's a reason none of those 15-seeds have gone any further than the round of 32.
Historically a team that wins the first two matchups wins the third about 70% of the time. I would think our chances of beating Mizzou are much, much lower than that.

How dare you let facts get in the way of old wives' tales??????
Is this a trick question?

I'd much rather play Mizzou because I think their uniforms are much prettier.

Did you see the Baylor game last night? Uniform aesthetics are nothing to joke about.

So are their cheerleaders.

The Columbia, MO Hooters had by far the hottest collection of waitresses I've ever had the pleasure of being serviced by...
The MU water polo team thus always accepted invitations to play tourneys at Mizzou
Norfolk State beating Mizzou would help our final RPI.

That is correct. The "It is hard to beat a team 3 times" cliche is exactly the opposite. It is much easier beating a team the 3rd time because if you won the first two you were most likely better than the other team and because each game is an independent trial that is not connected to the other than it should hold that the better team wins.
The better question is probably: who would you rather play, Florida or Mizzou? My answer would be Mizzou. But let's go Norfolk State...were up 15-7, but Mizzou with three straight 3's to go up 1 with 11 to go in 1st half.
Is Kyle O'F'Quinn related to JFB by chance?
Personally, I'd rather play Florida.

But typically that's because you won one at the opponent's site, and then one at a neutral site. So I think it would be a bit less than 70% to win a neutral site game after winning one at home and one neutral, but still better than Mizzou, nonetheless.
That said, I'd much rather lose to Mizzou than NFSU on the third try. But I'd much much rather win.
NFS up 4 in the second half.
Has a team every played a NON-CONFERENCE Opponent three times in the same season?

Oh man, I can't believe this is happening. Lets go NFSU
Wow - Norfolk is playing very tough. Unreal. Game is up in the air.
Refs doing their best to ensure Mizzou wins. Two terrible calls on O'Quinn. And Mizzou reaches a lot on drives to the basket. I really hope we have foul happy refs when we play Mizzou. They don't have that much depth and they will get more foul calls than us.

Fixed. NFSU looking tough. Mizzou's ability from behind the arc scares the hell out of me.

Those Irish guys are tough. McEachen, O'Quinn, McCauley are playing really well.
Refs calling everything Mizzou's way right now.
NFS making 3s at a ridiculous clip. Up by 4; under 4:00 to go. Don't know why Mizzou isn't pressing.
I am not so sure we want to play a team three times. The last time played them it went to the wire. Be careful what you wish for.

2nd almost upset, where the lower seed is getting SCREWED by the refs. A terrible foul on a textbook block, and then giving Mizzou a time out down the court after NFU stole the ball. ?-(

Better a team we've beaten twice then the most offensively efficient team in the country. It's not even close.
Mizzou is goin down...and I like it.
I called Coppin State in 1997. Haven't called a 15-2 upset since. NFSU is making me look like a genius in the office right now.

I'd always prefer to play a worse team. Out of 100 games, Missou wins prolly at least 95 times. I can't believe this is even a debate to anybody.
Bad shot by NFSU last trip down, leads to Mizzou cutting it to 2. Game far from over...
I posted this on the "other board"....
Justice would be NFSU up by two with seconds remaining and Mizzou with the ball. Denmon gets fouled (90% FT) and get injured on play.
NFSU coach picks Moore to shoot FT (50%) and he clanks both of them.
Justice baby! ;D
put a fork in it
Hard to beat a team 3 times in the same year, but you have to take the weaker team every time.
NFS up 3 on a nice play by O'Quinn. He looks tough. Still remember the 3 he shot that almost beat us.
What was Denmon thinking with that shot!

Asked and answered. Next.
Bad announcers, and refs.
Ed Hightower loving the camera time!
Geez, missed em both...watch Mizzou drain a 3-pointer at the buzzer...
Awesome!
The path has been cleared.... LET'S GO WARRIORS!!!!
Happy St. Patty's Day, Mr. O'Quinn!!
Whoa Baby!!! Lets Go Marquette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW - that was a good look that Pressey got, but down goes Mizzou. WAIT - I THINK I HAD THEM IN THE MUSCOOP POOL! >:(
(jk - glad to see them gone)
Elite 8 for us ^^
Well, Florida is a great team too. If they beat NSU (and we beat the Racers), it will be tough to guard Patric Young.
Huge huge game! Well done Spartans!
If we win on Saturday we will still have a challenge with Florida or NFSU but the path just became a lot easier.

Don't look too far ahead, Florida is a hell of a lot better than a 7 seed
The bracket is open for the taking. Seize it, starty by beating Murray!
O'Quinn, what a player. He should be a first rounder.
Free throws boyz......
NSU won, but missed 6 free throws in last minute and half.
Go Spartans and nice win. Wow. First #2 seed to lose since 2001.
Lets hope the MU boys are not looking ahead now that Mizzou is gone. Florida is good, but they are not Mizzou.
O'Quinnsanity!
(stolen from TV)
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here...
Missou/NFSU is EXACTLY why you've got to be at least nervous for every tournament game. I can't recall who the poster was that said anyone who worried about BYU was overreacting, but in this tournament, you've always gotta be prepared for the worst.
Go MU

Don't look too far ahead. We still have to beat a good Murray State team.
A real good Murray State Team... ranked ahead of us in the ESPN poll.
Let's worry about Murray State.
So I was just thinking about Norfolk State...I think the most significant shot for the Spartans this year was one they didn't make. When Kyle O'Quinn's three at the buzzer against Marquette was off the mark, it prevented NSU from earning a top-10 RPI win. Had they defeated us, there's no way they'd have been a 15-seed, more likely a 14, 13, or possibly even a 12. Everyone would have been able to point to that win as proof that they could play with anyone, meaning that a win in March wasn't unthinkable.
Instead, O'Quinn missed. Their best win remained Drexel. Sure, Marquette fans knew they had a pretty good team, but did anyone else? Half the Marquette fans even wrote that close win off as a fluke. And instead of being a trendy upset team (like Davidson, Long Beach, or Bucknell) that everyone was looking at and thus helping hone the focus of the higher seeds, they snuck in under the radar and pulled out a win that only MU fans could have seen coming.
Congrats to NSU, and congrats for the shot that didn't fall. I'd love to see that team a third time, if for no other reason than I think it'd be a fun get-together.
A lot of "NFSU' in this thread. They're NSU - http://www.nsu.edu/
I am a good multi-tasker who has no problem worrying his ass off about Murray State while also thinking about the possibilities down the road.
Buzz and the boys can't afford to do that. The rest of us? We might hate to admit it, but we really don't influence the outcome of any game. We can do whatever we want.
We're fans. We speculate for a living, dammit!!

If we do play Norfolk again, CBS needs to enlist the services of the best sideline reporter from the Paradise Jam.
