Title: Players to watch in the West
Post by: mu_eyeballs on March 12, 2012, 07:21:53 PM
Is it just me or is it kinda weird that Crowder is not mentioned as a player to watch in the West...not on ESPN, Not CBS, and not SI?!?!  From Big East Player of the Year to crickets...might be something to modivate Jae and the troops.

This team needs chips on their shoulders to thrive.

There's not much mention of Marquette in many of the write-ups of the West region. CBS's story does not mention Marquette at all and talks about the Murray State-Missouri matchup. Yahoo's Pat Forde has no mention of Marquette, but says Murray State is underseeded and Missouri was robbed of a 1 seed. Andy Katz and Doug Gotlieb only mentioned Marquette in the last 30 seconds of about a 7 minute analysis of the West region. ESPN's Myron Medcalf has MU losing to Iona, but Eammon Brennan says they could reach the Elite Eight, but no further.

Not a lot of talk out there now, but that may change before Thursday.

Does that imply that if ESPN of Pat Forde DID consider Jae a "Player to Watch," that our team wouldn't have the same edge?

Do you guys really think our players follow this stuff online? Do you really think a mention in an article or an omission in another will influence the way we play? I sure hope that, I'd like to think we are a little more driven and consistent than that.

I'm sure they do, but say they don't.  I think if they didnt want to hear their names talked about they would be playing for mt. st. mary's or something.  They want to hear their names called so they can punch their ticket to the next level.

They have to keep some stories for the 2nd weekend.  This week's stories are all about potential Cinderellas because many of them won't make it past Thursday/Friday.

When listening this a.m. to Nebbish Jew and the Fat Man (Mike & Mike), the nebby one went through a bunch of picks and categories.

One of them was "sexy pick likely to fall" - Marquette.

Not saying they do, but the more we are talked about and the higher we were ranked this year the worse we played. (A few blatant observations: First time in top 10 this year we played bad vs LSU. Highest ranking in decades at 7, played bad at Cincy).
