Title: Thoughts from last night at the Garden
Post by: Sir Lawrence on March 09, 2012, 05:22:21 PM
Was at the game last night, my first visit to MSG for any event.  Some random observations:

1.  The Marquette fan base was pretty strong.  More than I expected and vocal as they could be.

2.  The Louisville fans were pretty decent.  Maybe that's a reflection on the type of fan that travels, but the group around me were very complimentary of Marquette and MU's season.  Or maybe because the Cards were kicking ass.

3.  I sat right behind an assistant AD from Louisville.  He loves Milwaukee, and trips to play Marquette.  I asked him about the orange colored uniforms and he actually turned red in the face.  Said that a "mistake was made" and that he was getting major grief from his fan base.  It was striking how off the color was when their mascot stood next to a player.

4.  Everyone says the Garden is a great venue.  They are right.  Super sight lines, great feel to the place, really fun fans.

5.  Had one "celebrity" sighting.  Pat Reilly. Looking as GQ as ever.

Last night was my first trip to the garden as well.  Based on the behavior that I have seen from Louisville fans at the BC, I was expecting the worst but have to agree their fans were well behaved.  The Syracuse group around me couldn't stop making fun of the neon orange.

My only solace is that I was in NYC on business and I am saving myself several hundred dollars by not spending the weekend there... but boy do I wish I would have had that problem.

I bumped into Pat Riley too on the 100 level concourse. Thought it was weird seeing him stroll through the concourse, no one bothering him.

I sat in the 400 level, no issue at all with sightlines. Actually surprised how intimate of a building the Garden is. Despite the loss, had a great time, would recommend to anyone thinking about going to go sometime.

Dang, I suspected I misspelled Riley.   Wonder how closely he follows the college game.  I assume he's always scouting.
