Rumor has it that Buzz might be interested.

"Buzz to Nebraska."

Will there ever be a point when people sarcastically write that Buzz is rumored to be a candidate at whatever coaching position opens up? TC is the cause of this, but Buzz doesn't seem to put his name out there so the joke seems to have outlived its life expectancy.

Crean isn't the cause of this. It's the media's constant mentioning of Buzz being a candidate for whatever high major job opens up. Last offseason alone, he was all but gone to Oklahoma, Texas Tech and A&M.

Are you new to the interwebs? Life expectancy for jokes? No such thing. Seriously, you must be new here, right?

I think that was speculation based on Buzz starting out life and coaching in that area. I'm guessing he won't be linked so much with Big 10 jobs.
Buzz is going to be linked to many jobs the next several weeks.
Would Benford be considered as a candidate for this job?
Guess that full page advertisement didn't really pay off...

I could see that. He was an assistant at NU before coming to Marquette. The only question is if he'd want to take over for his one-time mentor, and if they'd want a former Sadler assistant.
Who would want that job? Football rules the state like few other. Women's volleyball is second because they win national championships in it. It airs statewide on Nebraska Public TV. Basketball fan? Then go to Creighton.
Read up on volleyball in Nebraska...it is an interesting story.

A. Buzz is going to be linked to jobs whether we like it or not over next couple of weeks.
B. I have stated numerous times that I believe there is trouble within the brass and coaching staff. I stick with my comments that the suspensions were based off last years issues.
There are important people that do not like the direction the program is going, mainly with behavior and student issues.

what I'm asking is which jobs, specifically?
Wiz
I think he will be mentioned at every decent opening, not saying he will be interested. Next four weeks is big for us on and off the floor.
Goose, I don't anticipate very many "decent" openings at season's end. Do you? Which ones?

If Benford went there, it'd strictly be a stepping-stone job. But if he went to Nebraska and got an at-large bid, his stock would go up significantly.
I could vendors at Nebraska and even doc Sadler taking his job at marq
Not old Doc!

Geez, are you sure after his team showed a complete lack of effort in its own conference tournament and all?
LOL Murs...No, but I think his employer might pad his resume.

They'd better learn to want just about anyone willing to go to Lincoln.

If he didn't go anywhere last year, when A&M and Oklahoma were open, I don't anticipate him going anywhere this year.
The only potential exception could have been Oklahoma State, where you have a bunch of tradition and A LOT of money. But Travis Ford looks as though he is safe. But even then, I doubt he would leave MU for that job.

Goose - I'm curious...do you live in Milwaukee? Or are these "important people" old friends of yours? You seem to be trying to stir the pot for some reason and I find it curious as we embark on post season after our best regular season in 10 years.

The only job I thought might have a chance this year was Texas. Is OSU a bigger job than Oklahoma? I know they might have a bit more NCAA success, but their titles are back from the 40s. And football is king at both schools.
With Texas likely in, I think Rick Barnes will be safe. He's got a monster recruiting class coming in, and if they can keep Kabongo from going pro, they should be really good in the coming years. I don't think there are many jobs left that would even interest Buzz...it'd certainly have to be a true blue-blood, when you consider the openings he hasn't even sniffed at.
Goose, did you ever live in Alaska?
I do not think Buzz is going anywhere. However, if he was I would be more worried about Nebraska than Illinios. Nebraska is closer to his home base and fans would be more patient than Illinois fans.
Not the original Goose, ATwiz!!!

I don't think his "home base" is all that important to him. He would have gone to A&M or Oklahoma, which are much better basketball programs, if that were the case.
Illinois is apparently looking at Shaka Smart, Anthony Grant and Reggie Theus. Some people are pushing for Chris Collins too.

I've lived in Nebraska my whole life besides my years at Marquette and women's volleyball is not 2nd. Football is #1 by a large margin followed by basketball, baseball, and then volleyball.
Also, it is more likely that Buzz takes off all his clothes and streaks across the court in our first round game, gets fired, and then Marquette hires Phil Jackson than it is that Buzz will end up coaching at Nebraska. To put it in perspective, I would say DePaul is a 10x better job than Nebraska.
I'd say that's win-win. I bet the Zen Master would be a force on the recruiting trail without leaving his office.

I can't even comprehend in how many ways this is wrong. Nebraska basketball? Nebraska!?!?!?!
Goose, it's kind of annoying how you keep saying Buzz is on the fringe of being OUT without explaining why. It doesn't make any sense based on the high quality of character guys that have been coming out of MU (Wes, Jimmy, Jae etc.). These are guys that have worked to the bone to get where they are and people really respect that. Buzz foster's that ethic and if Larry doesn't like/understand that, 1. MU doesn't deserve Buzz, 2. Larry won't be around that long.
