Quote from: Reggie RankinJunior Toby Hegner (Pine River, Wis./Berlin) has played well despite losing 25 pounds from having mononucleosis. The 6-foot-9, 195-pound skilled power forward averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game this season and is almost back to his weight (207 pounds) before mono set in.

Hegner is a face-up forward who can score inside or out to the arc with excellent 3-point range. In the low post, he is effective scoring on hook shots with either hand, a good rebounder on both ends and also makes his presence felt blocking shots.

"My low post moves are a strength," Hegner said. "My-go to move in the post is the hook that I can shoot with either hand. I am also comfortable facing to shoot or drive. I have to work on my driving better and my pull up."

Hegner will run with the Wisconsin Playmakers on the AAU/travel circuit this spring and summer.

"Toby is a 6-9 face-up 4-man with a nice jump hook with either hand. He shoots the ball well for a player his size with 3-point range. He is also not afraid to bang on the low block. He is a great kid that wants to be good. He lives and dies hoops. Toby will do whatever it takes to get in the gym," Wisconsin Playmakers coach Jason Jesperson said.

"Toby is a skilled interior prospect with nice size, solid instincts and decent athleticism. He can run the floor, has solid rebounding and passing instincts and while he is still developing his post skills and physical tools, Toby has shown the ability to score inside and out with a perimeter stroke that extends beyond the arc. Still raw in some areas, Hegner has a nice ceiling and with continued development of his physical tools and post skills his best basketball is ahead of him" Wisconsin high school basketball guru Antonio Curro, who is the National Recruiting Editor for NY2LASPORTS.com.

Hegner has offers from UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, Marquette, Valpo, Central Michigan, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Creighton, Drake, Northwestern and Colorado State.

"I have taken unofficial visits to all the schools except Colorado State. I am looking for a school where I can have a good relationship with the coaching staff and the style of play the fits me," he said.

Also this one on Nick Fuller:

Quote from: Reggie RankinJunior wing Nick Fuller (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) has had a terrific season, averaging 25.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and just over 5.0 assists per game, while playing virtually every position on the floor in order to help his team.

At 6-foot-6 and 195 pounds, he is a skilled shooter with range beyond the arc who has added to his game at a steady rate. The lefty scorer has honed his ballhandling and passing skills as well, due to his great work ethic.

"Nick has gotten better every year. He is more than just a shooter," said Justin Litscher, who is Fuller's AAU coach on the Wisconsin Swing. "He is much better at attacking the rim. Nick is a great kid who works hard."

"He has a solid stroke that extends beyond the arc and he excels spotting up on the break and on a catch-and-shoot basis off dribble-drive penetration and kickouts," said Antonio Curro, the National Recruiting Director of NY2LASPORTS.COM, who does a great job covering Wisconsin high school basketball. "He's got solid size and length and has shown an improved ability to score off the bounce and knock down the midrange jumper in recent months. His best years of basketball lie ahead."

"Shooting the ball is what I do best and I have to get stronger and improve my overall defense on and off the ball," Fuller said.

Fuller who has a 3.5 GPA has offers from Creighton, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, Butler, Drake and Northern Iowa. He is also receiving strong interest from Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Boston College and NC State to name a few.

"I am looking for a school with a family atmosphere. I want to wake up every day happy and glad I am there," he said.

Fuller seems to be the total package. A good kid with great family support, academically strong and a good player who is improving. A coach's dream prospect at any level.

It's surprising to me how many kids in the junior class are saying that MU has offered them a scholarship given the fact that MU does not currently have any to offer.  Nunn would seem to be one, then there's Duane Wilson and now here are two more.  With this season's success raising the program's profile, Mu might find that more of these kids will want to accept then they thought would.  If you got to have problems, that would be the problem to have.

That will all resolve itself when JWilson goes early entry after next year

I've been wondering this also. I have seen this with more than just these 4 guys. How is it possible to offer someone a scholly when we have no room?

In today's college hoop world, if you are not prepared for kids leaving, you end up with Niv Berkowitz (sorry Niv).

I don't like it, but it is what it is.

We also offered these guys quite awhile ago. Just because they were once offered doesn't mean the offer currently stands. I have a feeling that once Burton verbaled, their offers quietly went away.

There also has to be a pecking order in the offers, right?  As in Burton was likely a "preferred" offer (my own made-up terminology), meaning if he verbals then it's his at any point.  A player like Tate is likely a "conditional" offer (again my own maed-up terminology), meaning that if several things happen before signing day (i.e. an early entry, transfer, and several other players commit elsewhere) then he inks on the dotted line (if he hasn't already decided to accept an open offer elsewhere).  I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that's how it works.

I'd guess that's right. If a Parker or Nunn wanted to come, I have a feeling we'd find room. If it were Tate, we'd probably put him at the front of the list if something came open. If it's Fuller or Hegner, we'd probably only take them if we found ourselves with an opening on signing day.

Just my guesses, but I am confident not all offers are created equal.

Yeah, I thought he was and double checked it. 2013 for sure.

I agree. I would not be surprised if Todd Mayo had a breakout season. If Davante  improves his conditioning, we could possibly need 2 more spots to fill.

I think Todd will break out next year and will be the BEast player of the year as a senior.  He's got massive skills!

I think limiting the number of offers is one thing Buzz needs to work on. I have different opinion of recruiting than most on here, but do think too many offers does not look good. Buzz is skilled recruiter now and needs to adjust his style or we will continue to have Durley moments. I am not faint of heart on being in grey area of over receruiting but think you need to draw the line at lets say, 45 kids offered a year. OK maybe 45 is high but he does need to slow down the offers or be prepared for some negative ink.

Buzz must have a numerical sequence for all of these offers.  Seems like there are at least 20 out there now, with really one opening.  He must tell the recruits that yes we want you to come, but only if number 1 says no, number 2 says no, etc......  Man, that must be a tough thing to say to a recruit, but I presume it happens at most elite schools.

NYG

I think it might be old habits are hard to break. Until last couple years all of Buzz's big time recruiting has come from chasing position and he excelled at that. I think he really needs to redirect that energy and spot shoot rather than scatter gun approach. His pitch was probably right on for the situation he/we were in but times have changed.
