Title: Jabari Parker eyeing fate of Weber
Post by: THEultimateWARRIOR on March 06, 2012, 01:51:10 PM
http://espn.go.com/chicago/ncb/story/_/id/7652207/simeon-jabari-parker-keeping-eye-illinois-coaching-situation

If Weber is fired, Parker will probably not be playing for Illinois in 2 years. This would be huge if Buzz could develop a relationship with him especially with Taylor coming, and Nunn really wanting to play for MU. Does anyone have any information on weather Buzz has talked with him or if he would even consider MU? Could be a very exciting season in 2014.

I was just about to post this.  It looks like it's time for Steve Taylor to go to work on Jabari  ;D

Someone needs to tell Dad that Milwaukee is closer to home than Urbana.

Sonny said. "You always want to play for the state school, the University of Illinois. It's closer to home."

IMO, Jabari coming to MU is a bit of a long-shot. However...

I don't know how close Parker is with Taylor but if Taylor sings the praises of Buzz/MU to him and Parker spends some time visiting Taylor and scrimmaging with the MU players, he could decide that's where he wants to be (the Maymon-Blue Effect, if you will). A pipeline from Simeon to MU would be amazing.

Marquette could also just go out and win the National Championship this year. That would likely catch his eye  ;)

From what I hear it is long shot, but not impossible long shot. Issue of MU taking a one and done kid is in the equation.

The Simeon coach has staed that maybe Simeon needs to start a pipeline to MU and has also stated that it would be gret if taylor and parker could play together in college...FWIW

When/where did he state that? Don't mean to imply that he didn't say it. Just curious.

Hope Nunn and Parker come to MU and Simeon coach starts pipeline. Otherwise lay off that juice.

I read it also.  I believe it was a new article on Steve Taylor that someone posted as a link.  He definitely said it in some form of context.

Someone posted a video a couple weeks where Taylor and Nunn were interviewed, along with his coach, who said something about starting a pipeline with Marquette.

Honestly, by this point I really expect Nunn to be here.

Maybe if Benford leaves, Buzz can hire the Simeon coach.  Now that would get things buzzed.....

It seems as if Robert Smith is pretty interested in coaching college basketball, he's said it in the past.  So if he's going to end up on someone's bench, why not ours?

Pretty sure that if you hire someone onto your staff you can't sign someone from a program they've been associated with for at least a few years.  That rule changed just after IU hired that video coordinator then reeled in multiple 5 stars from its program....

Headed to the Illinois Sectional game tonight between Simeon and Whitney Young. I hope someone from Buzz's staff will be joining me. If given the choice between Parker and Jahlil Okafor I would take the latter in a heart beat...

The other thing is go to Jabari's ESPN page and see the offers he's gotten. I'm not saying it's impossible to get him here but it will take a tremendous amount of effort

Patience is a virtue....

And if Nunn signs....That means someone needs to go.....

I am assuming all of these decisions will be made after the Final 4.....

Jabari Parker is a long shot.....

He likes Izzo.....

But that is not to say impossible......

Remember when Dawson was coming here and Mich St. swept him up "somehow"....(inuendo, rumors, FUD, etc)

Did you listen to Lavin talk today about what coaches are saying about his "Cancer" on the recruiting trails.....Truly a dirty business....No subject is out of bounds....

I know this is in jest, but yes, this one of the realities with college hoops today.  Nearly every super-elite recruit will only attend one of the handful of schools that will a) provide national exposure every game and/or b) cut a check.  MU is neither, although I agree that imprinting 2012 next to 1977 would certainly help to bridge the gap.

Of course.  These top tier recruits are already thinking about their brand, and what promotes their brand is going to the top schools that get all the face time like Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Duke ... Just like in the NBA how the big players want to play in big markets so they can rake in endorsements... these college recruits are endorsing themselves for a higher draft pick the following year.

MU isn't there yet.  Not even close.  But they're making huge strides.  Another National Championship will certainly help the case...

Yes he can verbal now.  However, my guess is that Buzz might not be thrilled about him announcing something considering we have no scholarships for 2013 as of right now.  That might change.

I did not read the article, but it seems to me that a new Illinois coach would have a much better chance of signing Parker than a coach that is on the hot seat. Unless there is a big turn around, Weber will remain on the hot seat until he is no longer coach. I believe a new Illinois coach would be bad for MU recruiting in Illinois.

It will be interesting to see if someone leaves after this year. My gut feeling is yes considering Nunn and Tate were both in attendance for the Georgetown game. Wild speculation but maybe Derek Wilson? Tate is a point guard. I have also heard were showing a lot of interest in a rising pg in Wisconsin.

Just heard on WSCR that Jabari Parker is a mormon.  Not that it makes a difference, but I thought it was interesting.  Then I read this:

Ummmmmmm..... granted Marquette is Catholic and all, but hello?  Parkers?  Have you met our coach, Buzz Williams?  The guy's attitude, actions and philosophy makes Family Home Evening look like the Jerry Springer show.

Other than BYU (of course) name one other high-major, successful D-I basketball program that would be a better fit for a Mormon from Chicago than Marquette.

Their is no possible way under any circumstance that Parker follows Weber to SIU.

Let me repeat, if Parker wants to play for Weber, Buzz can hire him as an associate head coach after Benford takes a head coaching job later this spring.
