Title: Marquette Basketball: 4 Reasons the Golden Eagles Miss the National Tournament
Post by: Marqevans on March 04, 2012, 08:03:14 PM
Do you think Ron Eshlman of Bleacher Report wants to take back this article?

Hilarious!

My personal fave:  "They don't draw fouls."

I wanted to laugh at the stupidity (saying they don't draw fouls and then highlighting that Mu shot 30 free throws), but I came away feeling depressed for future generations who might take this site seriously.

I never felt MU wouldn't make the tourney, but I did have serious concerns over the consistency of DJO/Crowder early in the year...props to those two and the MU staff for fixing that issue.

Buzz' focus on making more FT's than the other team attempts amazes me.  It's one thing to preach it, but to do it as consistently as MU does amazes me.  There are so many areas of the game that need to be coached well to do that.

The more I get a feel for Buzz the happier I am that he is able to coach his team(s) rather than a system that players need to conform to.  I don't know if I'd call it a 3/4 or full court trap, but I've yet to watch a defense in the NCAA that makes it as hard to get across half court as when MU runs that trap.  Amazing considering a year or two ago I felt Buzz was a solid recruiter and average game coach.  Just like his players, he seems to get better every year.

I have to applaud their business model. Employ college students with "internships"; assign provocative article titles that will garner hits; require people to keep hitting through slideshows to increase page views; and have two full length adds on either side of the article.

Ignore him.

Then he will wither away.

Pay attention to him, and you just made bad news into good news.

Trying to be serious here ...

It was written in December 30 after the worst game of the year ... the loss to Vanderbilt.  This was also the game that Dan Dakich said "MU does not pass the eye test."

All of this was true on December 30.  So repeat after me ... "do not judge a teams success or failure in the March tourney based on how they do, or do not do, in December."  Say it again.

Don't remember Dakich saying that but I do remember Jimmy Dykes saying it.  Wonder what that SEC shill thinks about us now?

Don't know if anyone clicked through all the way and got to the next article on the top 5 seeds in each region as of 3/3/12.  It had us as the 2 in the South.
