Title: MU Athletics controlling Spirit Shop?
Post by: ChicosBailBonds on May 18, 2007, 04:10:56 PM
That item was glossed over a bit on the Cottingham announcement.  Perhaps this has already taken place in the last few years, but nevertheless it's good to see.  One can only assume it means monies (a percentage) would flow to Athletics bottom line.

For years Athletics would not receive a red cent for merchandise sold at the Spirt Shop while other athletic departments were taking in revenues for like sales on their campuses.  Again, perhaps this is already happening now with some kind of split for Athletics, but this announcement giving Athletics essentially control of the Spirit Shop I find to be interesting and beneficial to the Athletic department.

Maybe that's why they stopped selling items with our embarrassing mascot on them?

Don't get me started...

Yup, it happened a few years ago - I think because of the exact reason you stated (money flow to Athletics).

This only makes sense, and is a good business move by the athletic department.

I've always wondered why MU seems so behind the times in how it licenses and sells athletic apparel.  I sure would like to be able to buy MU shirts and caps here in the Chicago area.
