My name is Tom Maillard and I'm a senior at Marquette and avid fan. I'm definitely in support of the students who are organizing chants in order to increase the excitement of the fans/student section. However, it seems that one of the bigger issues at hand is the lack of consistency in our fans commitment to being loud. At some games (hopefully tomorrow) our crowd is certainly one of the loudest, which is apparent as we are able to fill an NBA arena, and yet, at other games we are certainly deserving of the criticism that our fans aren't devoted.
Therefore, I think that one way we should attempt to increase people's pride in attending games is by creating a name for our student section. It's obviously only a start, but there seems to be a greater power with U of I's Orange Krush, the Cameron Crazies, the Zoo at Pitt, etc..
So, can we begin thinking of potential names for Marquette's student section?
Just a starting point: The Eagle's Nest
Al's Army.
Tom Crean picked the Gold Rush.

Al's Army.
I actually really like this one. Whatever it is, we should get it printed on the student section shirts. Make them say something better than just "Marquette Basketball"

Blue and gold camouflage shirts that say Al's Army on them.
Print em. Have em ready by tomorrow.
Lower the beer prices. Not a name, but an idea.

you mean it's not covered by calling it the "greatest student section in the country..."

Great idea for next year... We have already made plans to bring this up to the Athletic Department on Monday.
QuoteI've said it once and I will say it again, the student section/everyone should sing the national anthem as loud as possible. Nothing gives me the chills quicker than that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SZiLlvstZA
And if any of the student commenters are serious about getting chants going, start a separate section and give yourselves a name. It starts with a few and grows "organically." Personally, I think Al's Army would be a killer name for a fan section.
Finally, I'm no 'Pool fan but when they sing "You'll never walk alone" at Anfield, it's quite a sight to see. That would definitely take time to master as well as help from the jumbotron but I think its feasible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7xvegPH_Lw
That is what I posted in a thread in late 2010. Still applies. http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=22667.msg249505#msg249505 (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=22667.msg249505#msg249505)

Buzz's Bleachers?
I was going to suggest Buzz's Bunch, but that might be considered offensive...to the original Buzz's Bunch.
I hope no one realizes it's a rip off the USA supporters section. If they realize it's from soccer it probably wouldnt get all the +1's....
I should add that I love it. Al's Army till we die...
According to some of the posters who complain about the student section, the appropriate name would be Buzzkill.

You mean Sam's Army right?
Al's Army...
...of Warriors.
I see what you did there.
BTW, leave Buzz out. This program is not about him. It's about the kids.

If by kids you mean, "money"
Might as well sell the name to a company for naming rights.
The "We arent watching the game we are just texting are friends or checking our Facebook Status" Army
::)
Not sure about naming it after a coach who hasn't been there for decades and died when the students in the section were in grade school. But hey, it's not my section. If that's the choice, it certainly would be a nice tribute, I spose.

If only there were four hot girls at Marquette, they could wear very little to the games and call themselves this.

It's for a team that practices in the Al McGuire center, plays their games on Al McGuire court, has an Al's night and wears a patch on their jerseys honoring the man. I think the students-don't-know-him ship has sailed :)
If nothing else,
Al's Army has a consistency with the rest of the program and a nice alliteration. Plus, after seeing the camouflage uniforms for the UNC-Michigan game this year, I think some camo shirts could look pretty sweet.
Buzz's Belligerents
How about "the empty seats"?
Just kidding!!
The Buzz Bin.
It's the section in the record store where they feature the hot new music. It's the place to be.

ditto. i don't buy anything with a golden buzzard(no pun) on it. marquette says it all!! and we all know what comes after that. as for the student section name, the bradley center buzzinators ;D

I like this also. A candid way to respect the past. If they did this I nominate the Crowder warrior as their official logo.

i love it!! i thought of that too, but then i thought peoples would then say, don't start that all over again. next thing ya know, the ncaa doesn't allow it cuz of disrespect, blah blah .......
Wet Hairy Cats or Chiefs
I Like Al's Army or Marquette Militia. Here is a start on the new shirts. I am sure someone is more talented and could draft up something better but hopefully this could get things rolling.
Warrior Nation.
Also, yes the students who go here now were still in grade school when Al died, but anyone who follows MU basketball knows about Al, no matter how old.
So incorporating "The Warriors" or "Al" is a neat idea, but it doesn't fit with today's game at all.
We changed over to the Golden Eagles almost 20 years ago... and Marquette last won the National Championship 35 years ago. This doesn't mean that those two moments aren't significant, but if the university won't even consider changing our nickname back to warriors, what chance in hell do you think that there is of naming our student section anything dealing with the warriors motif? zero.
Al's Army? I get it. He was an awesome coach, and an amazing ambassador for Marquette... but come on. Once again, I doubt the university would be interested in tying itself to a military name (army, militia, etc). Its just the time we live in.
While I don't like it, "The Eagles Nest" is probably just bubble gum enough to be picked.

And there's a hologram of Al stretching across the back of our current jerseys... I think everyone knows who he is.

+1 - Mid 90's grad, I love the history of Al as much as the next guy, but his name is all over the program enough already. Nobody will ever accuse us of forgetting our past. This is a new era. I think MU comes in a safe second to the 85 Bears for teams of years past that fans hold on too much to.

Well then we should win another national championship. No one forgets about the 85 Bears because that was the last (and only time) they've won a Super Bowl.
Don't name it after Buzz because who knows what his future holds. Harsh reality is that he could be gone anytime for a number of different reasons. Al's Army will not come back to bite us.
And we can name it "The Eagles Nest," but then all the alumni better not crap their pants (which will happen). The University went to great lengths to not incorporate the Golden Eagles as much as possible so everyone would shut up. This would be a step backwards for them (or it could be a step forward for all alums, but I don't see that happening)
That's actually a good idea, probably wouldn't pass the PC test, but if you could name each section of seats it would provide a little identity for those who have the identity crisis problem. In addition to the Eagles Nest for students you could have the Warrior Den in the middle lower deck area for those alumni who felt the absolute need to be a part of something for warriors only (and happen to have deep pocketbooks). Nothing would have to be made public about it, just a special section in the seating literature.
