Don't mean to be sippin' on that haterade or anything, but Vander's shot has been looking UGLY.
I mean, he makes a decent amount of 'em and he does so many other great things for the team, but wow. I kinda just cringe when I see him go up for a shot. It's as unconventional as Craig Counsell's old batting stance.
edit: should be in hangin' at the al, my b.

It's not pretty but it looks a whole lot better than it did a year ago. It also doesn't have to look pretty to be effective (see John Shurna).
Its like he twists to the side everytime he shoots. Its not a great look
I had the best (worst) angle looking at his multiple 3s from the corner. It isn't pretty, it isn't his strength, and he usually doesn't have to take them.

I noticed this too. When he lands its like he twists sideways. Hes making a lot more shots though. Im really hoping Buzz can fix this over the summer or were going to finally have a team with good bigs and no great guards like were used too.
I think he jumps too high when he shoots. (I think Dominic had the same problem.) It hurts the rhythm of the shot. For instance look at DJO. The dude can seriously jump, but he doesn't get very far off the ground with his jumper...it's always in rhythm though.

I hadn't really thought about that before, but you're right. There really is no rhythm to his shot. Just watch college or NBA 3-point contests. Those guys barely leave the ground. It's all about rhythm.

What?
What was so hard to understand, can you not read English? Who's going to be our outside scorer next year like DJO this year? Please answer that question. You're an idiot if you think that Todd Mayo, Junior, and Vander will be raining threes like DJO.
3point percentage
Todd Mayo .301
Vander Blue .267
Junior Cadougan .250
or wait maybe you think Derek Wilson will be the guy with his .000

I fully expect Mayo to improve. I expect TJ Taylor (who is shooting 35% at Paris) to also add that dimension.
And your math sucks. Either represent it as .301 or 30.1%.

1.) When have Marquette fans been used to good bigs and great guards?
2.) Vander Blue was not recruited for his range, he needs to develop the shot, there's nothing to fix.
3.) Vander's role isn't to be a sharpshooter.
4.) Mayo will improve, he's a freshman, that's what they do.
5.) TJ Taylor is shooting around 34%, don't forget about him. Hopefully he doesn't fall off like our freshman class.
Can you 'not [write] English'?
On the other hand, his free throw shooting has improved markedly throughout this season! I've stopped sweating when he gets fouled.
Perhaps, Steve Novak will come back in the summer and give Vander some pointers on proper form for his jump shot. These things can be improved with a lot of work in the Gym, as was the case with Jerel McNeal between Jr. and Sr. year.

it is a legitimate concern. Todd mayo will improve, you can see he has the form and ability. Every year fans fret over how we will replace graduating seniors, and every year someone steps up. I expect major improvment from underclassmen, it happens.

1.) Marquette is known for their great guards. (like I said)
2.) Nothing to fix? I believe it can be fixed. That is what a coach does. Develop/Fix its all the same concept. (Once again pointless arguing)
3.) Then who will be the sharpshooter?
4.) Then why have freshman on literally every big east team performed better?
5.) 34% at a juco college. Big difference between playing in a local gym and 19,000 screaming fans. I hope your right about him.
All I'm trying to say is that we will have a weak outside game next year. I do not understand why i get bashed on this board for saying that. No one has brought any evidence to show me that we will have a good outside shooter besides Jake Thomas and possibly TJ Taylor.

This is a legitimate concern, but I don't think it means MU "Won't have great guards".
MU probably won't have great SHOOTING guards, but shooting isn't the only thing that makes a good player. MU might have to find it's outside shooting from everybody improving a little bit, TJ Taylor being decent, and some Jake Thomas spot-minutes when the situation dictates.
Consistent outside shooting is probably the biggest concern for me next year.

A shot is still a shot, it's not gonna change. Maybe he'll have nerves at the beginning, but he's not gonna lose his 3-pt shot...
Vander won't have any trouble finding work outside of basketball... he's a hell of a brick layer...
two names not mentioned thus far, and likely are better perimeter shooters than Blue, are Jamil and Steve Taylor
not that I expect either of them to be raining threes, but they both have a good stroke and have proven to have some range
I don't anticipate them shooting on the level of Jae, but if these two guys can provide a 3 or two a game, that will help replace Jae on the inside/out "stretch-4" game, and have a great enough effect on extending the defense, making it easier for Junior and Blue to penetrate and be effective where their game is the strongest

What did DJO shoot from 3 as a JUCO freshman? I have a feeling that it was worse than the 47.4% he shot in his first year at MU.

If we are talking about three point shooters for next year, why has no one mentioned Jake Thomas.

He is a beastly 3 point shooter. His 40 point performance last year was insane. I just hope he can have an impact on the team next year. His defense will be the only thing that holds him back.

Here's how this is going to go:
Me: His 3 point shooting is good, but hardly out of this world. He has a worse career percentage than Mo Acker for instance.
Scoop: That's cause he was the focal point of the offense at USD. He'll just be a role player at MU.
Me: Yeah, but have you seen his stats against BCS level schools last year? 26.9% from three.
The "legend" of Jake Thomas way exceeds the reality.

I think you make a good point, but what is your "reality"?
I think he can be a 10min per game player who shoots 35%+ from 3pt. range.
As a senior, he might be a 15min. per game player.
I don't think he'll ever avg. double figures in points.
That is my reality.
He'll always be 100% traditional.

That way exceeds what I think he will do. IMO he will be less than 5 mpg in BE game and will play very little when it matters. He was recruited to South Dakota for a reason...he was a walk on here for a reason...

I see your point. I don't really know where the minutes are going to come from, but I think next years team is going to struggle in the 1/2 court offense, and JT could help with that.
The over/under is 6min. in Big East play. I'm taking the over.
