Title: Notre Dame vs. Georgetown
Post by: mileskishnish72 on February 26, 2012, 01:13:55 PM
I'm a big Hoya fan tomorrow - get them both to 5 losses!

I go with the Golden Domers here to kick the Hoyas out of the 2/3 equation.  MU can lock up second place and the 2 seed by winning this week.

I'm pulling for Georgetown. If they beat Notre Dame, that gives both 5 losses, meaning we can sew up 2nd place with a win at Cincy. Besides, it's Notre Dame, and I just don't like cheering for Notre Dame.

Yep it's ND, but its good to knock one team out of the picture.  I stay with ND for that reason .....Besides, that would lock up a 2 or 3 seed.  ND is going to be there as a 2/3' so don't give the Hoyas any chance to muck things up.

I need a much better reason to root for ND.  This is not even close call.

Go Georgetown, well lock up 2nd place with a win in Cincy. Its too risky having ND only with four losses heading into the week. Cant wait for a packed BC on Staurday.

In terms of giving us the highest finish, Georgetown. If they win we get the 2 seed by winning either of our two remaining games.  If they lose we get the 2 seed only by winning both of our remaining games.  Only thing I don't like is it seems the way it's playing out the 2 seed is going to get Louisville in their first game - I'd rather be the 3 that gets Cincinnati, less afraid of them on a neutral floor.  But I'm not willing to lose a game this week to get there.

L'Ville hasn't looked very good there last  games so I'm not sure all the angst of we don't want to play them  in our first BE game.  Would i rather play USF or cinci first, yes but L'ville doesn't scare me, we are playing well.

Would MUCH rather play USF or Cinci first.

Doesn't really matter who we root for, though. Those teams aren't gonna listen!

As much as I can't stand ND, I'd rather see them knock Georgetown out of the equation for 2nd or 3rd.

With regards to who we might see first in the BE Tourney, I'd prefer to see USF over Cincy or Louisville.

What are you talking about?  ND is blistering the nets for 18 first half points.

Seriously, watching ND shoot the past couple of weeks, how did they ever shoot 50% from 3 land against MU?

Hoyas all the way - ensures us of at least a tie for 2nd in the conference.

They were at home. I read somewhere that notre dame is shooting 20% higher at home for the year or something ridiculous like that.

That's why ND has seriously just been getting lucky this whole Big East season. Seriously, they are weak. I'd love to see them in the tourny (either tourny).

Careful with that thought.  I said the same thing and a few lambasted me.  One felt compelled to call me out again after ND whipped WVU.  Odd, they have been silent the past two games.   ;)

Georgetown, as a Jesuit university (arguably THE Jesuit university) is essentially our sister school. When push comes to shove I will always root for the fellow Jesuit program.

Okay, you got it and now the nightmare scenario is in play; We, Georgetown, ND, and South Florida all finish 13-5, and MU gets seeded fifth in the BET.

Don't we win the tiebreaker with USF?

Not true. In a multi-team tie, standings in the 'mini-conference,' record vs. top teams in conference become the key factors. Just because we beat them doesn't necessarily mean we'll automatically finish ahead of them.

Ya but USF hasn't beaten any of the teams in that mini conference, so we trump them

After Sunday's game, it said MU received the double bye.

We've now clinched at least a tie for second place in the standings.  For second seed in the tournament, we need one more win.  If we drop both, we're the fourh seed (third if Notre Dame somehow doesn't beat Providence at home).

Doesn't matter...

4-way tie (obviously assuming a MU loss on Saturday)

Georgetown: 4-0
Notre Dame: 2-1
Marquette: 1-3
USF: 0-4

Nova, Pitt, Providence.  Part of the criticism on them: home and home with 13, 14, and 15th place = 6 of 11 wins.

Wow, somehow four teams get to magically advance to the semi-finals! So I guess any previous winners just have to stop playing huh?

Common sense seems difficult around here.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely for USF to get the 7 seed, unless it's at the expense of Cincy beating MU Wednesday night. However, it's more likely UL will NOT be the 7 seed. They play USF Wednesday night, if they beat USF, they go to 11-6, as well as USF, but since they would own the tiebreaker, UL moves to 5th and USF 6th. That would make Cincy 7th in that scenario.

Sure, but don't forget the other half of the story for all of those teams.  USF gets WVU at home where they've only lost one game.  Cincy gets a very winnable game at Nova.  UL goes to the Carrier Dome.  If we go "by the book": UL over USF, USF over WVU, Cincy over Nova, Cuse over UL that'll result in USF 5th, Cincy 6th, Louisville 7th.  Those seeds hold regardless of the MU/Cincy outcome since in a true head-to-head USF owns the tiebreaker over Cincy, Cincy owns the tiebreaker over UL.
