Title: Did the Big East Network Just Leave Jae of their BE POY List?

at half time of the USF v. UC game...unbelievable

That's the main reason I think that while he's clearly most deserving, he may not win it. Too many people still think of Marquette and immediately think DJO. Any lazy voters will just look at Kevin Jones' double-double and figure no individual at Marquette could be more valuable.

Hope they watched us come back on WVU...hard not to vote for Jae if you have paid attention and watched the way he made Kevin Jones look average while almost single-handedly giving Buzz a reason to dance.

Brew,

Jones has a strong resume but WVU's record is his biggest drawback.  But how does the conference's network leave Jae off the list of contenders?  The BE has simply the worst media assets of all major and many mid conferences.

I don't think DJO will win it either. The "analysts" on SNY barely talk about MU, ignoring the fact that were in 2nd place. It's their east coast bias and MU, not a local school, is 900 miles away. All the more motivation for Jae to prove them wrong.

Agree on all points. While Jae certainly has made a great late dash for the award, Jones' season-long numbers and the presence of DJO will hurt Jae's candidacy.

And just to play the voice of reason ...

Imagine if we had a guy leading the conference in scoring and rebounding but was beaten out for the award by the 5th-leading scorer and 11th-leading rebounder. Pretty sure we'd be screaming, "Unfair!"

I don't disagree with anything there. But I do think that Jae could well be overlooked because DJO has been a higher profile player for the better part of 2 1/2 years, and Jones simply has numbers. I could also see Cooley sneaking in and taking it. He has very, very impressive numbers since Big East play started.

Last year, Kemba Walker was snubbed (in my opinion) from the Big East POY.  He responded by marching UCONN through the BE tourney and to the NCAA championship.  I'd lead the campaign for Kevin Jones as POY if Jae can respond the same way  ;D

Idk, pretty hard to argue that your guy has been snubbed when you have to scratch and crawl to get back to .500 in conference.

That was a travesty they gave it to Hansbrough last season.

Onto this year, the key is social media. There was a brief flash on Friday/Saturday from guys like Goodman and Parrish about Crowder being POY. The more people like that put it out there on their feeds, the more their buddies see it and the more it raises name recognition.

At this point in society, name recognition too often trumps actual accomplishment (whether individual or collective).

The only thing about Jones is that, at best, WVU will be .500 just like Walker and UCONN last year.  Kemba was clearly the best player in the BE even before the BET or NCAA runs.  More concerned by the East Coast bias.  Jae may have a strong chance but not very indicative of a strong chance when the BE Network (Wenzel) doesn't even have him on the list.

East Coast bias is mostly a figment of aggrieved fans' imagination.

It didn't help Kemba beat out midwesterner Hansbrough last season.

Has anyone from the "C-USA expansion schools" won BE POY? ND just may be the exception.

Notre Dame is the number one team in NYC and strong in Boston, DC, Philly.  Hardly "midwestern" when Goody gets first team BE while missing one third of the season and then didn't start upon return as the team went on a run when he went down.  Oh yeah, ESPN had nothing to do with the new East Coast ACC.  Of course, Milwaukee media doesn't cover the BE so shame on us "midwesterners" as well.

This does not bode well for the "New Big East" if teams outside the Boston to DC beltway are ignored here in the East, while the teams in the East are ignored out in the (Mid)West.

And the BE is on the ND Network (COMCAST/NBC)

The most boring act in the world: listening to someone whine about media bias.

You mean to say the broadcasters on a NY station pay more attention to the teams in the NY area than teams in the midwest?  How ridiculous!  Of course they do.  They are complimentary of Buzz and Marquette whenever the school is mentioned.  As far as who gets the POY, it's going to be hard to beat Kevin Jones (WV is hardly part of the east coast media establishment) because of the sheer numbers, not school location.  Leading the league in scoring and rebounding is an impressive accomplishment.  I don't see how anyone that watched the MU-WV game could be confused about who the better player is, though.

Now if Drummond or Lamb beats out Crowder or DJO for anything, you'll have an argument.

The New York media doesn't even realize that they play college basketball prior to the semifinals of the Big East Tournament. Right now the Media has much more important things on their plate: like what Jeremy Lin had for breakfast and whether the Yankees will give Nick Swisher a contract extension.

Being hurt a little by Big East bias is a small price to pay for having access to the NY media market.  As much as I'd love Jae to win BE POY, it's much more important to me that 10s of millions of people including ME continue to be able to watch almost all Marquette games on TV.

I will be ok if Jae and DJO both get first team with no POY, or if one of them gets POY, but I fear they will just give one of them first team and the other second team, which would be unfair to them.

I was resigned to Jones winning it until Friday night, but do believe Jae doing so much better than him with MU shorthanded makes me think there is a chance.  Unfortunately, by the same logic, a Digger type could argue that Cooley had such a bigger game than Jae in South Bend and took a team that wasn't supposed to be near the top to the top quarter elevates him to POY.  I'm keeping my expectations low so I can celebrate if it somehow happens.
Title: Jae only BE player in Pomeroy's top 10

forgot, I do believe Crowder now being the only BE player in the Pomeroy top 10 POY will be read by some voters.

This was Bob Wenzel's list at halftime I was referring...no Jae on the list of contenders, which is mind boggling but I guess I am just whining about SNY.  This was the same guy Buzz blew off his dumb ass question at half a few games ago.  Zags is the only one worth his salt on SNY.

Aren't the Big East awards based on coaches voting?

Yes.  Also, no ex CUSA school player has ever won the POY
