I've seen it mentioned that the fact that DWilson, Juan, and Jamail each got significant minutes last night in the first half would help their development, and could help in the tournament. From a defensive standpoint, I'd definitely agree, and think that they all did pretty admirably on that end of the floor.
But, I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that during their combined 46 minutes (almost all of which came during the first half), that they only had one shot attempt between the three of them (which was a Jamail Jones bail-out three IIRC).
I understand that under normal circumstances, they are probably instructed that their current role should not include shooting the ball much--if at all. But, in last night's context, I'm just shocked that we didn't see any of the three attempt to make something happen on the offensive end. As it was, we were reduced to only three offensive threats for 20 minutes of basketball.
Do you think these three guys were instructed to still let the offense flow through our remaining scoring threats, or were they just too timid? Just seems like a lot of time on the floor for them to only have attempted one shot.
That's a good question and have been thinking about it all day. Not sure. Good basketball coaches generally tell players to "play within themselves" and not force something...so my guess is that they were told exactly that. And they did a real good job at keeping it close until the last six minutes or so of the half.
That being said, I really, really was hoping that Jones would have put up 10 points or so. He is such a great guy and wonderful teammate and I would have loved to see him step up.
I didn't really notice anything specific with JJ or DW...
But a lot of Juan's touches were way out on the perimeter, swinging the ball from wing to wing, or getting it way out in the corner. He also seemed to be defended pretty solidly every time (no space to even put the ball on the floor, IIRC).

I remember in the Wisconsin game, and another early on game, Juan got a basket in tow or three minutes out on the floor. So, I think that you're right. With only two starters out there, there was not enough happening offensively for Juan to get any opportunities.
I think D. Wilson actually did OK. Put it this way, I think he will grow to the point that he will be able to run this offense as the starting PG when Junior graduates. He has the same skills and aggressiveness. It's just getting him in some trouble like it did for Junior when he was a freshman and at the beginning of last year.
Here's hopin' Buzz recruits a more capable 1 by then.

OK, but even then any new PG is going to be a freshmen when D. Wilson is a junior. I think 18 more months in the program is going to do him a lot of good. He is defensively way better than Junior was at that point.
I see D. Wilson as a very capable and valuble back-up point guard. But, if Kyrie Irving, version 2, wants to be a Warrior, I see that as a better option.

Well yeah...I just don't see us recruiting that player right now.
Big fan of Jamail and Juan, but neither looked promising AT ALL on the offensive end last night. At this point, I don't expect much at all from either from here on out. But I do think we'll need both of them to be pretty active offensively next season.

This seems to be what a ton of people were saying about Junior when he first started to see minutes.
I re-watched the 2nd half. Juan was the only sub to play in the 2nd half. He played several times. Was active on D and got some boards. Didn't notice him, though, on the offensive side.
We need point guard helping down the road. Wilson could be nice backup but would like to see longer and more athletic point . Our style of play would only get faster with athletic point.
DWilson is along way of playing significant minutes as I am not sure he is a Big East quality point. Has no shot, need to see tremendous improvement to
even see that he gets a shot in two years. With no new recruits, Vander takes over the point or TJ Taylor. Jamil Jones hit two big shots against Cincy,
but I do not see much of a future at MU. Juan Anderson has potential as at least he can play some D, and hustles big time. Does he have an offensive
game. Not sure where he fits next year. Have Wilson and Taylor at the 4 next year, with Blue, Taylor, Ferguson, Mayo at the 2 and 3 where does he get
time at?
I think we will need a starting point guard. Wilson doesn't have the court vision of cadougan, doesn't have as good of handle (and people here criticize his) and isn't as quick or good on offense.
He may develop, but right now he looks a lot like a really good career backup.
I think of the three, Juan has the highest ceiling. He has the look of a good rebounder who can hit from 17-feet on in. Wilson would next - plays solid D, and as people have mentioned, we didn't think Cadougan was any good when he first started getting playing time. I don't see Jones piecing anything together, and I think he'll be a reserve for most of his career.
I also was rather disappointed to not see any assertiveness offensively. Granted, I love seeing some of the younger bench guys do anything productive.
I think they just wanted to play within their normal role and not force anything too much. What they really lack is that confidence and experience on court. Playing with our top guys in practice has to really rub off on them. I really want to see Jones and Anderson come alive more next year.
Defensively, they were solid. Offensively, they looked like they were playing to not make a mistake. DWil had a couple of opportunities to turn the corner and get into the lane like Junior and didn't take them. JJones never really caught the ball on the wing with his feet set. Juan never caught the ball in the post. I would have liked to see more offense out of them, but at this point I am not overly concerned.
They held their own, but offensively they were a non factor. Jones, Wilson and Anderson did not score and Mayo had four points. The four of them had six turnovers. Could be nerves, afraid of mistakes, etc., but you would figure some more point production would have occurred. Lets see how they play out in remaining games.
Remember Cubi and Acker. They were terrible Buzz's first year. We keep wondering how are we going to replace the 3 amigos, then Lazar, then Jimmy, now DJO and Crowder? Someone always seems to rise to the occasion. It should be fun who they'll be. Will Jamil improve, will Blue learn to finish and get his shot back; will Gardner and Otule play injury free, Will Jr. become an outside threat, will Jake come off the bench and shoot the lights out, will TJ Taylor come in ready to play like Crowder, will Steve Taylor give us good minutes as a frosh, will Furgeson suprise us and be the best of the new bunch, will Durley be better than Chris when he arrived as a project frosh? Or will we have a rebuilding season like Nova? I don't know, but Buzz seems to get someone to perform to their maximin ability year after year, so I don't expect a season like Nova.

*May* develop? He most certainly *will* develop. And he *better* develop because I don't care who you bring here in 2013, I seriously doubt they will start. (And I don't think Blue should be taken off of the wing.)
