Title: Junior
Post by: mileskishnish72 on February 24, 2012, 10:17:59 PM
I have been a fan of JUnior and enjoyed his successes.

BUT - it drives me nuts when a guy mugs like hell for the camera and then can't make a GD free throw.

I told my wife when Jr. had free throws at the end of the game "That's the last guy I want shooting."

The announcers said he a 74% FT shooter. My response was: Not when it matters.

He went 0-2. No surprise.
He needs some more work. I hope he realizes it.

The difference in the second half when compared to the first was Junior and how he runs that team.  He doesn't play the half he does, MU doesn't win.

Missed the fts -- just like Jae and others did. Not good. But ...

He was excellent in the second half. Really ran our offense like a pro.

A lot of flaws in his game but he is a true PG. He found his teammates at least three times right under the basket for easy layups. Nobody else has his passing ability in this team.

Bugs me when a six footer can will his way to a board against a seven footer on the last play of the game.  Nerve of the guy.  Jane-Finch.

What does he need to work on?

Jnior was a stud and got the offense going. without him we lose by 10. how many wide open layups did he create tonight??? at least 3... missing FT's is rough but everyone one on board with that tonight. appreciate that he's playing well and getting the offense rolling.

I think I remember Junior making some crunch time free throws earlier in the season.

First of all, Great win, and Buzz's 2-step was hilarious!

I agree that we don't win this game with Junior's PG play, but PG's also need to make clutch FT's at the end of the game. Also, not sure what DJO was thinking the prior possession when he went to the hoop and took on 3 defenders instead of dribbling the ball until he got fouled.

Thankfully, neither mistakes cost MU the game as this team perservered and is riding a high versus feeling like they gave one away. Impressive and well deserved win!

It's the first time I have seen him mug like that.   In context, I have no problem with it.    Nobody but Blue was making free throws.   And in the final play, it was Junior vs the bearded wonder for the final rebound.   Junior got the ball. Toughness defined.

Agreed. Wrestling the last rebound from Vlad the Impaler was deserving of a tough mug.  Junior by the way, always has a kind of tough mug appearance despite his soft voice; it's just him. Quick to the ball beats bulk every time.

ABSOLUTELY! Offense was night and day between the two halves. Guy knows how to run a team and I'm glad he's our PG. He owns WVU.

My complaint about Junior is that this is the second time this season he has been benched for a team rule violation - which has totaled 1.5 games. He is an upperclassmen...just this week on Inside Marquette and talking about how much he has grown up...needs to start acting like it.

Can this board pick the collective bunch out of its undies?

No problem with DJO doing the same, though.  ::)

Anyway, chances are the guys made a dumb mistake like being late for a practice/team meeting/curfew.  Oh the horror.  It was dumb and shouldn't have happened, but it did and it's over with now.  No harm done.

I don't think anybody is arguing that junior helped the offense. The point is that junior is a starting point guard in the Big East, and he cannot hit free throws when it counts.  I find that concerning as I'm sure a lot of other people would.

Imagine if that was vander?!  Holy S*it would people be calling for his head. Not sure why people seem to give a pass on JC though?

Nah. We got the Win, he showed the intensity we're gonna need from him down the stretch this year and for the remainder of his career.

Almost everyone wasn't hitting their FTs. So why single him out?

On more than one occasion this season he has nailed all his free throws in clutch time.  Including one game where he was either 4-4 or 6-6 in the last 2 minutes.

He has one game this season where he misses clutch FTs and suddenly he can't get it done when it counts.  As for the comment on Vander, yeah I bet we would see the same reaction and he has also been clutch on numerous occasions.

A pg is supposed to be your best ft shooter.  Maybe I'm expecting to much, but when I saw JC was fouled my head went down and was praying he would make at least one.  (I shouldn't have to think that).

Which game did JC have that 4-4 ft shooting performance on? Sorry I just don't recall?

Yet, he is one of the key ingredients to the win last night...

Sorry, jduq, but Junior's command of the offense as well as his defense, particularly in the last 13.6 seconds (after his missed FT) were crucial.   Instead of putting his head down, he helped tie up the WV guard at mid-court, disrupting the flow and forcing the TO.    Then, after the last shot, he outfought the beard for the final rebound.
Missed FT's were contagious last night.   That happens.    Choosing to stay in the game and make two big plays in the last 13 seconds anyway.......that's leadership.
