Who saw the little scumbags that wanted to literally fight Buzz after he did a five second two step to Country Road? Security and the police had to hold these little dirtbags back. Makes sense that Huggy came from there.
West Virginia has never been confused with class, but what Buzz did was pretty stupid. I know he is pumped and he gets emotional, but you have to know better on the opposing teams court. What do you think is going to happen? He is a great coach, but that was bad judgement, and I think he realized that during his interview.
We have to remember anyone outside of the Marquette family doesn't really understand his quirks...I'd probably be pissed too if I got knocked out of the tourney and opposing coach was dancing on our own floor....still gotta love that man
Buzz dancing at mid court. Well spoken with Raf. Wish he had hyped Crowder for BE POY

I agree. Just still ridiculous. I would have been angry, but fighting the opposing team's head coach would never even enter my mind.
I'd be pissed if I was a WV student but it was great. This guy is classic!!
Buzz now more hated than RichRod?
It's amazing to me how fans, particularly students, think they can say anything they want to players/coaches (horrible, horrible, things) and they flip out when they get any crap back at them. unnatural carnal knowledge West Virginia, they're leaving the Big East.
Buzz deserves it... I like it but he deserved it. Props to him for admitting he brought it on himself.
Don't Care. W!!!!
Bet ya Al was dancing in heaven. He really never goty along with Huggins when their teams played. Rubbed Al the wrong a couple of times at Cincy.
If it was any other BE venue, even if it was in Madison, I'd want him to tone it down. But in the trailer park, against the hillbilly fans, the school that *had* to get out next year so they can begin traveling to schools in Texas that don't care enough about playing them to despise them...I wish he'd have taken the team and done a line dance.
WAHHH, West Virginia fans, WAHHHHH!!! Go get smacked around in the Big 12. And enjoy travelling thousands of miles to every road game.

Huh? Huggins was about 12 when McGuire retired.
I understand the toothless wonders being upset. Buzz was a bit embarrassed himself. He apologized on TV. That said, ABSOLUTELY no problem with Buzz's dance. Love ALL the emotion I see from Buzz. He's havin' fun and so am I!

Agreed. As a Marquette fan, it was fun to watch but I couldn't help thinking, "That's a bad idea." Then again, considering West Virginia is bolting the conference, who cares? ;D
I'm in the "that was a bad idea" camp. Reminded me of Terrell Owens on the Cowboys Star a few years back.
On the other hand, all WVU had to do to stop it was win. Put up or shut up.
Damn, I wished they wouldn't have shown that on Sportscenter
I'm surprised Linda Cohen spent time talking about Buzz's two step. It takes away time from her beloved Rangers. I was in Nashville this week and a band played Country Roads at the end of their set. They later received an angry text from WVU.
MU fans would be livid at a Huggy jig...yet would MU fans be throwing crap at players during a game? Refs should have T'ed the crowd before that.

Linda used to sit behind me in the press box during Rangers-Islanders playoff games in the 1980s and weep bitterly when the Rangers lost.

Honestly think it was more about the elation of winning that game than it was an F you to the fans. Go Buzz!
Having said that...hope the dancing doesn't happen again. Not a favorite Buzz moment but good that he acknowledged HR got caught up in the moment, and who can blame him?? 4 players suspended and we still win. Jae making a real case for BE POY. First win in Morgantown. Big night for the program.
Most of the fans were gone. It's not like Buzz was dancing after the horn sounded.

No. Al was not a dancer, even on the sidelines. He wasn't one to goad the opposing student section, the referees usually had his undivided attention.
Keep Dancin' Buzzy...all thru March I hope 8-)
put me on the side that thought it was just fine. the game was over, players were off the court, and he was walking over to do and interview and heard a good tune so he did a two-step. the only problem was the fans were still there, and it was obvious they were staying to give him crap one way or another. to compare what buzz did to what TO did is just plain stupid. the situations, time, and purpose couldn't be more different.

Yeah, eff it...keep on dancing! (no teal, genuinely changed my mind)
And still don't think it was about WVA students or the team, really think it was standard Buzz emotions running high and was about him being proud of his guys...and that I do love.
He also had just finished a long emotional embrace with jae. probably wasn't thinking about anything really - just happy

Buzz on the 2nd version of Sportscenter. WVU fans will still not be happy, though 90% may not understand what he said, but he was contrite and apologized. Still loved it. It was Buzz and I love Buzz's energy and emotion!!
Moonshine drinking hilljacks
It was an act of emotion, not meant to be hurtful. He apologized. End of story. WV should be worried about whether they get to host an NIT game this year. I could not pick a better school, team, coach and State to leave the Big East.
Buzz is having fun. He is like a little kid who just get a cool present. More than a comeback win, a new record 13 Big East victories. Locked up double buy in BE tournament. Top 10 team. Maintained integrity in disciplining players and still won. Plenty to dance about. Buzz earned the right tonight.

Al standing on the table was at the Arena, his home turf.
Reminds me of an occasion when MU beat Marshall and there was some controversy about a call at the end of the game. Someone said to Al something to the effect that their whole state was PO'd - Al's response was:
If I have to lose a whole state, I guess West Virginia's a good one.

Apparently, "idiot" is a proper noun in WV.
God I love Buzz. If I were a WV fan, I would be pissed, but then I hated Huggy with the white hot passion of a thousand suns until I heard Mac talk about all the help Huggy gave him leading up to the draft (and then just despised him). Buzz apologized. Buzz's legend grows. They will get over it--and since we won't be playing them for awhile, I really don't care.
Buzz was just enjoying the moment, not purposefully disrespecting WVU or the game. Frankly, I'd have expected the WVU students to take it out on him regardless. And Buzz understood why he was getting grief and was man enough not to worry about it. I thought the on camera apology was appropriate and enough. End of story; end of WVU.

I didn't take an exact count of all seven pages of the thread, but it looks to me that there were about as many defenders of Buzz as there were outraged fans. There was quite a bit of sentiment along the lines of "Well, it wouldn't have happpened at all if we had won."
There are quite a few fans on this board that are pissed that WVU didn't win even after we basically spotted them 3 players in the first half. And understandably so.

I think it was the Snow Game in78/79 season on the Saturday before Winter session. Major blizzard and only about 2000 in attendance and they let the students sit anywhere. Tripuca had the schlitz, going in and out of the locker room all game IIRC. Digger was pissed about something Al did at South Bend or that MU didn't hire him when Al left. I believe this was also the famous Bill Lambeer puking incident as UND was snowed in so their players hung out after with MU friends on campus. While only 2000 strong, it was mostly students only and the abuse was uncensored.
Is this the game Digger got the beer shower? If it wasn't, it was the cause of it later. We went Hillbilly for sure this game as even arena security didn't make it in.
Lighten up, Francis.
It was a little dance after a good win in a college basketball game. So what. It's fun. It's why we watch sports.
Anyone rather have Mike Deane out there with his insta-tint glasses?
Dug a little deeper into Digger's classic best seller autobiography and it was this 1979 game they cut down the nets...he said it was because with the victory over #11 MU that UND would be ranked #1. Credited Tripukwad for the idea. You youngins better understand the Digger and UND raging hate?
Of course it was the year before during Al's first season as an announcer he was covering a game in South Bend and the students booed Al at a pep rally. Al grabbed the mic and said: "If you don't shut up I will go back to Marquette and start a football team"
Found something else :)

Can anyone tell the difference in West Virginia? ;D
Am I really the only one that remembers 'dirty dick vitale' dancing at mid court of the Milw Arena after finally beating the Warriors? He was Al's bitch forever, and couldn't contain himself. No comments of this nature at that time. No 'kill him', or 'he's a douch', or 'hate him', or 'I hope someone punches him in the face'. Just went back to beating him every time.
I hope someone at ESPN has the wisdom to do a little research before talking about "classless", or "disrespectful".
I drove down to watch the Northwestern/Indiana game in Evanston the year after Bob Knight walked out and inflamed the student section with spicy rhetoric after they called him "hoosier daddy". He was a gas. He came out early, shook hands with and handed out candy kisses to all the Northwestern fans and instantly defused a charged atmosphere.
Buzz made his effort with the apology. Case closed.
I would have been pissed as a WV fan, but solely by not knowing that Buzz truly wasn't "rubbing it in" and that his M.O. is having fun in the moment. With that said, I found it really funny watching the most heated fans get "held back" from going after Buzz. The vast majority has no one holding them back, but it definitely looked like it. Glad they had restraint.
