Title: Value of playing at home
Post by: MU82 on February 24, 2012, 10:26:26 AM
We're one of the hottest teams in the country. WVU has had troubles winning and is coming off an embarrassing loss. Nevertheless, WVU is a 1 1/2-point favorite.

And I'm not the least bit surprised.

Some can correct me but I believe Kenpom says home court is worth between 4 and 7 points.

If I'm remembering this correctly, we would be a 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 favorite at home.

Based on that math, that would be the spread if it was on a neutral court.  If we were home, it would be 6 1/2 to 12 1/2 spread.

The Scoremobile app on my phone moved the line to a pick'em early this morning but is back to WV as 1.5pt favorites now.  Must have been a lot of MU bets right away that slowed down now.

It seems we always play teams when they're on a losing streak, which I find really unfortunate.  I tend to think teams are more motivated when they are on a losing streak, and want to break it.  That's why we are underdogs tonight, combined with Gardner still not being able to play.  I thought we'd have a letdown against Uconn, and was ecstatic to be proven wrong.  I hope to be proven wrong again tonight, b/c I think we are the underdogs tonight again b/c a team that just got embarrassed like WV will probably be due for a breakout game.
