Title: MU can clinch double-bye Friday...
Post by: wardle2wade on February 21, 2012, 08:31:30 PM
I believe if we can clinch the double-bye as soon as Friday night.  No easy task by any stretch, but it seems plausible.

If...
1) MU beats Rutgers and wins @WVU on Friday.
2) Cuse beats USF at home tomorrow.
3) Lou wins @Cincy on Thurs.

Then...
MU finishes no worse than 13-5.
Lou finishes at best at 13-5 (we own tiebreaker)
USF at best 13-5 (we own tiebreaker)
Cincy at best 12-6

Here are the current rankings (after Georgetown loss)...
1) Syracuse      14-1
2) Marquette    11-3
2) Notre Dame   11-3
4) South Florida  10-4
5) Georgetown   10-5
6) Louisville     9-5
7) Cincinnati     9-5

First things first... let's avoid the trap vs Rutgers tomorrow.

Let me add that I'd rather USF pull off a shocker at Cuse.  It leaves open the possibility of a sweat for a share of the regular season title.  Good time to be an #mubb fan.

MU would be 3 not 2 since we lost to ND.

Right, but I'm just saying for double-bye purposes.  Didn't say what seed we'd get... we of course lose the tie to ND.  Those records were as of tonight, not end of season.

We also can clinch a double bye tomorrow if we win and South Florida loses
To clinch a top 3 seed we must win 2 of our last 3
never mind forgot about the cincy game

No chance Im rooting for that. If we end up the 2 or 3 seed I want UL to stay the hell away. That means they get the 5. If they are going to get the 5, USF needs to start losing.

Best case scenario is Cuse loses @ a desperate UConn and L'Ville gets revenge at the Carrier dome, we win out, and the Cardinals get a 4/5 seed while we share the last regular season BEast title with the dream league still intact.

Very nice scenario. That I can dig.

Caring about the double bye is something I never want to do.

Agreed.  I'm not caring about what other teams do.  I want MU to clinch the double bye by winning as many games as possible.

Only thing guaranteed right now is no worse than 8th place.
