Title: Big East Tourney Tickets
Post by: Golden.Eagle on February 21, 2012, 01:37:55 PM
First time attendee this year - does anyone have any recommendations regarding buying tickets for entire tournament or going session by session trying to pick some up on the day of the games, assuming MU advances?   Tickets through MU for entire tournament are near $450 and in the upper level.   Any feedback would be great.

Have gone 3 times and have done it both ways.  There will be tickets that are available outside the MSG that you can buy...like everything else it is supply and demand..however with UConn, Pitt and Villinova being down demand may be lower this year for the first 1-2 rounds, but if Syracuse stays in tickets could be high for their games and last 2 rounds.  This year I am not buying full tickets because I am counting on a double bye.   I figure to pay ~40 for Thursday game,
~200 for Sat and if MU is in Final I am going to pay up to $400 for a really good seat.

So If MU makes only semis I am paying less than $450 if they make finals I am paying ~200 more but I am getting a really good seat.  IF the win Friday I will try to buy tickets from losing teams fans before they leave the MSG...this is the best way to do it.

PS  If you buy tickets outside you will be OK..I would not recommend buying tickets in stadium.  Also Cops will be on the street but they will not bother you if you are buying, they just keep a watch on everything.

I've been a few times and got tickets through various channels.  I have a friend in VIP services at MSG so I go through her (but had to cancel this year...ugh!).  I wouldn't recommend getting tickets through MU as they are nosebleeds, or at least they were when I went.  However, sitting behind Dan Fitzgerald's parents was pretty cool.

There are always good seats available outside from fans of the losing teams.  Also, if you are an alum and are going there without tickets you should contact someone in alumni relations and ask them about ticket availability during that week.  There's no certainty, but they will sometimes serve as de facto brokers for extra / unused tickets.

Also heading to New York and hoping to get tickets there.  Friend of mine told me last year he bought on the street and the tickets turned out to be fake.  So have to be careful.
Anyone know where MU fans will be hanging out?

Enroll as a student. As of a few years ago (and I don't believe it's changed), it was $10 for each round to sit up front off the end line, and you got the full session that Marquette was a part of. I remember an alum behind us asking what we paid to sit in front of his $$$$ seats and being less than thrilled at the answer.

According to the MU website ( http://marquette.edu/alumni/eventsreunions-basketball.php?tab=1#TabbedPanels1) it is:
Lucy's Cantina
1 Penn Plaza
Corner of 34th and 8th
New York
212.643.1270

PS     Yes the fake tix are becoming more common every year.

I recommend using a high level of caution when scalping outside the Garden. Unless you are positive it is a fan of another team looking to unload his/her tickets for a full session. I don't trust the regulars there scalping one bit.

You'll pay above face with stubhub or brokers but at least you can pick and choose which games you go to. All about your risk/reward attitude.

Side note... I am not a fan of Lucy's but if you want to roll with other MU fans it's the place to be.

Last year was my first year and I went w/o tickets- was very happy w/ Stubhub, very reasonable- easy pickup at their storefront blocks away.  I would be cautious on the street, saw a few folks that got stuck w counterfeits upon entry.  This year I'm trying the tix through MU
