Got a tip today from the brother of Cords' dry cleaner's sister-in-law who has a direct line to what goes on at MU.
Tim Buckley is taking Todd Townsend's job as Dir of BBall Ops. (Yes, I'm scratching my head, too.) If I got that message right, that sure means there's no one leaving the assistant coaching ranks this year, as TB would certainly merit an AC job .. although the "Dir of BBall Ops" title is um .. what's the word for it .. dreamy? No, that's not it. Some word.
I think that's a good get for MU. TB is high quality.
And um .. hmm .. google seems to have known this already. Nick Bennett is the new Head Manager/Dir of BBall Technology. Wait, I think we read that in the MJS a few weeks back. Oh, well. Here it is again.

I believe MU was looking to upgrade the position and make more than an entry level job. Many schools are going with route now with the position.
Maybe Crean is expecting some turnover?
KU for example has Mario Chalmers dad as Dir of B-Ball ops...and Danning Manning is Dir of development or something...plus KU aqlso has full allotment of assistants on top of them....Danny Manning btw is a quick learning humble assistant....and is doing well.
Majerus is doing a similar thing at SLU...it is becoming more of the norm...adding more assistants and paying more for them.

No. Adding more high qualified personnel to the staff is all he is doing. Upgrading the position.
Who is Tim Buckley?

Who is Tim Buckley?
When Crean started he hired Tim as an assistant. In 2000 he moved on to become the head coach at Ball State. He was fired prior to the 06-07 season, and he an assistant job at Iowa with Alford last year.
I've updated his Wiki page with current info

Who is Tim Buckley?
Tim Buckley is AWESOME. What a delight, I hope this is true. By far my favorite hoops coach when I was there...just a great guy, beautiful daughter and wife, nice family.
He's also the guy that put MU onto Dwyane Wade and of course Mo Acker played played for him at Ball State.
And for trivia buffs...he spent a year on Stu Jackson's staff at WI when they made the NCAA's for the first time in almost 50 years in the early/mid 1990's.
Yup, 47 long years until Stu in 1994.
Wait a minute Chicos...isn't Buckley the guy that many at MU have denied was involved in anyway with Dwyane's recruitment? That is was all Crean? Or am I thinking of another former assistant?

That's Jeff Strohm. To his "credit" he did find Niv Berkowitz too.

Actually, I've been told Wade's recruitment was the benefit of Rob Jeter and Rob Jeter alone.
;)
Actually Wade was a walk-on and sanitary engineer at MU under workstudy. So nobody now or in the past recruited him or helped develop his basketball talent.
The 2002-2003 ESPN the Magazine article on Dwyane said that Buckley was the first to notice him. He was the "skinny kid" running up and down with Darius Miles on the Illinois Warriors.

All I have ever seen was a Peoria Journal article on that topic where the info was never confirmed the way it was written. I have yet to see anywhere where Jeff admitted those quotes. If anybody wants to show me something other than a disputed PJ Star piece, I'd be interested.
