So if we can get a top 10 ranking in March we'll have high chances for another special year :)

Could be special...depends on the seed and match-up.

Anyone know if the dirtball A.D. from Ohio State is still the head of the committee for the Tourney?

I think it rotates each year. This year I believe it is (former?) AD of UCONN Jeff Hathaway.

We finished 02-03 season ranked #4 nationally, though I'm guessing you're only talking about regular-season rankings.

Actually I think it's Xavier AD, Mike Bobinski.

Correct, above is only regular season.

We were tied with North Carolina State for the seventeenth most appearances in the top ten with 160 until today.  Now we are in sole possession of seventeenth place with 161.  Georgetown is hot on our heels only five appearances back at 156.

Every season we've been ranked in the pre-season AP poll we finished ranked:
http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/marquette/

Anyone have any idea what our "worst" season has been since the establishment of the RPI (1981)?

Statsheet has RPI from 1999-present.

99-00 - 70
00-01 - 112
01-02 - 25
02-03 - 7
03-04 - 71
04-05 - 94
05-06 - 31
06-07 - 22
07-08 - 20
08-09 - 35
09-10 - 53
10-11 - 50 (doesn't seem right, but only number I found)

Just curious to see how bad the darkest of days have been since RPI was instituted.

Since we are in the top 10 now, does that mean that Seth Davis thinks we are in the mix to win the championship?

It's right.  I believe that Southern California (coached by O'Neil) was the only team to make the tourney as an at large team with a worse RPI.

Here is a comment to get the emotions going ....

Crean had a total of 10 weeks ranked in the top 10.

Buzz has had 7 weeks and could make it 10 in three weeks should they keep winning.

(Because we do not have enough posts comparing Buzz to Crean :) )

Why is the AD from OSU a dirt ball? You could very well be right.

Sounds about right.  As stated earlier in the week.  With Crean we got the highest of highs (Final Four, Conference Championship, Wade, never worse than a top 4 Big East finish, etc) and some of the lows (not the lowest of lows by any stretch).  With Buzz, we haven't gotten the highest of highs but some pretty good ones (Sweet 16, the rankings, more consistent recruiting), and fewer of the lows (9th place Big East finish).

Both coaches have delivered some cool memories for this fan.
