It is certainly possible that both MU and Georgetown could find a way to win their next three prior to meeting on March 3rd. If that occurs, the clash between two Top 10 programs for what would likely be a #2 seed both at the BEast and in the NCAA tournaments will necessarily make that Saturday a 'game for the ages' here locally. How far back does MU have to go to recall a similar situation? All the way back to the 70s? Has there ever been a game that big in the Bradley Center?
Marquette - UCONN, the game DJ was hurt. Playing, at the time, for the BE lead. Both Top 10 teams. HUGE build up for that game. Unfortunately, watching DJ go to the bench, seeting Ernest come out and whisper in Buckley's ear, then seeing him go to Crean and watching Crean's reaction, I cared little about the game from that point on.
I believe this was in Buzz's first year, so Crean and Buckley wouldn't have been there. Depressing game for what was a huge build up. I remember meeting Dickie V, rushing through an exam, and then getting down to the BC to an already full line in the afternoon. After that though, it was all "what could have been?"

Ha! Crean and Buckley - this is why witness testimony in a trial should always be taken with a grain of salt!

Sorry Mac, I had incorrectly read that as 'Cuse, not UConn. My apology. Corrected my post.

Ha...such a vivid description of something that did not happen.
In 2002-03, Louisville was ranked #2 and Marquette #11 when they played at BC. But yeah if they are both top 10, that would be fun!
MU against UConn in Buzz's first year could have been a classic. That had the makings of a classic.
Marquette vs. Louisville, i think it was the final four year. Both teams in top ten or just outside --- i want to say it was and 8/9 matchup or something similar. Reece Gaines hit the game winning 3 from about 6 feet beyond the 3-point arc and at the same used his non-shooting hand to slap me in the balls. it was weird.

Yes, the Reece Gaines shot. Helluva player. Wisconsin kid as I recall, yes?
Lots of ifs here...
Notre Dame loses to both West Virginia and G'Town (trying to be hopeful)
G'Town runs the table
We go at least 2-1 in our next three (trying to be realistic)
Then G'Town and Marquette would both be 13-4 going into that matchup fighting for the two seed. One would have to think we would both be Top Ten (G'Town would not have lost and we would have only lost one and have at least another big road win).
That would be a fantastic scenario. Would definitely be the best Marquette-G'Town game played in the regular season.

Looking at the box score of that UConn game no wonder we lost. Outside of James going down early, the three bricklayers from the line (Thabeet, Adrien, and Robinson) were a combined 12 of 13 from the line. Gimme a break. ::)

Of course. I give it a 20% chance of coming to pass as I spelled it out.

There's a little bit of reverse romanticism going on about that game. Despite DJ's injury, which occurred in the first half, Marquette had the lead at the under 8:00 timeout in the second half. Look at the play by play posted in the box score. We were in it until that point.
We were also only down 3 with 2:30 left. We were in every game down the stretch even without James. Next game we lost by 3 @ louisville. We were close @ Pitt only to have them pull away at the end. Obviously the Cuse Senior Night was a gut punch. Ah, what could have been with a healthy James....

Sorry, reciting from memory and had a brain fart - It was Benford and Buzz. If I would have given "testimony" the day of or after, I would have gotten the names correct. Story, outside of the names, accurate.

Where was the reverse romanticism?

Worst live sporting event I've ever experienced. The worst part is we stood outside the BC for like 12 hours in the freezing cold to get front row seats in the student section to watch Gaines slap MUunderpants testes. It was definitely weird.

MU had one last play. Inbounded to D Wade - 2 options. Diener on the right and Novak on the left. He gave it to Diener who got a good look, but contested and missed. I wondered if later in the season he might have passed it to Novak instead. Louisville was playing towards Diener at the time.

I'd pass it to Novak now.
