Crean is friends with Tony LaRussa? I never heard that before ...........

I hope Crean didn't take notes on the Brewers ability to start fast and then fade out in the second half of the season, oh wait, I think he already knows that one.

Just kidding. I actually think the Brewers have some staying power this year. I also have a rooting interest as I want to see the Yankee wannabee Cubs get shut out of the playoffs after their spending spree.

The Brewers are built for a nice run for the next 4-5 seasons......with Gallardo and Braun ready to jump to the majors after the 6/2 eligibility date passes (this will keep these guys away from free agency for a full season), the Brewers have an enviable young core of high-ceiling talent that is better than what you'll see from any other NL Central team;  not to mention smart signings/trades like Sheets, Estrada, Bush, Suppan, Turnbow and Vargas.

Weeks, Capuono, Hart, Fielder, Hardy, Gallardo, Braun, Villanueva ... that's quite a group to build around.  And with a top 10 pick in the upcoming draft, the pool could get deeper still

Of course, the accumulation of all of this talent is the work of Doug Melvin (largely during the Selig-Prieb regime).  Yost was lucky to keep his job last fall and certainly was on the "hot seat" coming into this season.  Is Yost a better manager than last year,  Methinks not.  I would say that if a poll were taking about 8 weeks ago, Yost and his staff probably would have ranked in the bottom third in MLB...??

Doubtful.  Yost is very very well thought of in baseball circles.  He's among the most respected managers in the business.  Most people in baseball would have said Melvin didn't give him enough talent, and now that he has talent you're seeing what he kind of manager he really is.

Maybe.  The Brewers' Pythagorean projections are much more modest than their on-the-field performance - -  perhaps they are luckier than they are good, or maybe Yost is doing just fine.

In terms of talent acquisition - - Attanasio took over in January, 2005.  While the close of the Selig era was great in terms of talent acquisition (Sheets, Gallardo, Fielder, Capuano, Hardy, Villanueva and Weeks), Melvin's performance under the new owndership has been nothing short of spectacular as well:  adding Bush, Turnbow, Cordero, Braun, Suppan, Estrada, Inman and more.  A nice run for Melvin and his stafff.

Any chance that Ned Yost gave Crean pointers on how to keep his composure during an NCAA tournament game?

If not, this was a waste of time and yet another inexplicable opportunity for Crean to get his name in the newspaper.

I guess he could have exhibited the composure of Mike Deane going after C.M. Newton during the NCAAs against Providence and earning the first of it's kind NCAA probation for a coach.  Is that the kind of composure you would have preferred?  (though let me say that I thought Mike's tirade was justifide in many respects because of the butchering on Pieper, it did not need to include Newton)

Gotta be honest here... this type of post is EXACTLY why people think that your dislike of Crean clouds your judgment regarding MU hoops.

God forbid he actually had a genuine interest in something.  Why do you even come to the baord while Crean is the coach.  You openly root against the success of the team while he has been the coach.  Plenty of people here like Crean, dislike Crean or indifferent on Crean but don't seem to make their personal vendettas their main contribution to the board.

Yost was never in danger of losing his job, and does a good job and is respected for it around the league.  That LaRussa guy again, routinely asks him to coach with/for him in the All-Star games etc...as an example of respect for Yost.
