Title: Announcers Today
Post by: TallTitan34 on February 18, 2012, 01:03:12 PM
The announcers today were all about Marquette.  I don't think Homer and Mac show that much love in a game!

Also they kept calling Lamb, Lin.

I really like the way Doris calls games, a smart lady who does her homework.

Agreed. Second-best crew that does BE games IMHO after the Big Monday McDonough, Raftery and Bilas crew.

Doris Burke is excellent, one of my favorites. She's a helluva lot better than many, if not most, of the male ex-players. I cringe every time we get Dickie Simpkins on a BE network game.

How Bob Wenzel does BE games, let alone tourney games, absolutely astounds me.

One of the best parts of the Big East Tourney. Yea, Doris is very good. I don't think to myself "What in the world is she talking about?" Usually has solid info.

Wishful thinking as it turned out.

She said UConn will be ineligible for tourney play next year due to academic issues. Said some of the players may bolt putting the program in jeopardy. Pretty grim outlook if true.

I believe that she meant Lamb and Drummond leaving for the NBA which may well have happened anyway.

You guys like Doris Burke because she brown-noses MU and, especially, Crowder.

She comes across like an MU fan and not an unbiased announcer, imo.

Maybe some, but not me. Liked Burke as an announcer long before she was doing MU games in the BE.

Oh the HORROR of an announcer giving us some love!  I admit I doesn't hurt, but I still think she does a very good job.

Announcers aren't supposed to give MU love.  They're supposed to give an unbiased account of the game.  She drools over Crowder more than Vitale drools over Duke.

Well I was drooling over Crowder today as well.

Seriously. Listen to any announcer.  They all have keys or players that they focus on.  If her focus is Jae, and Jae earns it and a half like he did today, that is not going to upset me.

anyone drooling over any player or team more than Vitale does over Duke is impossible.   Doris was giving hype where hype was being earned... Jae had some serious game out there today and for Doris to ignore that would be akin to her not doing her job...

Give credit where credit is due... in this case it was Jae's game today.

Fran Friscilla was "drooling" all over Crowder and DJO and calling Marquette the hardest working team in the country...and that was during the Mizzou game. He should be less biased too right zilla?

She drools over him during every MU game she does, not just today.  All the whining about how MU doesn't get fair coverage (the MU fan inferiority complex), and when it gets overpraised (UConn is in a freefall), THAT'S fair coverage, of course.

Today, MU earned the praise.   As complete a game as they have played since Wisconsin.   UConn is in freefall, and that was discussed.   But MU routed them.   And that is what the announcers said.   Seriously, MU plays as good a game as we have played in 2 months, roll the defending national champs on their floor, and you are complaining because the announcers are impressed with us?!?!?!   Wow.

Doris told the truth, the truth was MU played well, Jae great, UConn lacked energy at times and lost composure.

Well at least someone is talking about the team that is winning.  Doris, as well as Katz with a nice article and interview with Jae: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/49068/transfer-keeps-marquette-rolling-along

Better than the College Gameday crew, which went through the highlights and then spent 3 minutes talking about all of UConn's problems rather than how the winning team won the game (not sure how that's being "overpraised" when you don't mention the team that won by 15 on the road at all).  Just going to continue to piss our guys off, so they're just going to have to keep winning.

I'm sure during any one game Jae is playing he is one of the top two or three players on the court, so as a result, receives most of the hype by the announcers.  this draws viewers interest.... Good for Jae for being that player that draws that kind of attention.

This is good for MU!!

Again, she is doing her job and doing it well.

Godzilla, circa 2003:   I cannot believe that Bill Raftery.   What does that even mean "send it in, medium sized fella"?   Those announcers completely missed the story because they were too busy blowing smoke up MU's arse.   This game wasn't about MU, it was about Kentucky choking.   All you MU homers are just too blind to see it.    Kentucky's big has too good ankles and this is a different story.

I'm being honest.  Doris Burke is attractive in my book, but I'm over 50 and look for different qualities.  She's smart, knowledgable about basketball and has a very good sense of humor.  Trumps 95% of the woman out there and I think she's a decent looking lady.

Yep, blowing out the top team in the country in the NCAA's is equal to beating an unranked, fading team (also missing their coach) who will be fortunate to even make the tournament.

Not surprising.  The story is about Ucon, the defending national champion, in great distress where they may not make the NCAA tournament.  That's the national story and ESPN is a national story.  ESPN said nothing but nice things about us with Bilas last night, but of course they focused on Ucon because they are one of the blue dog programs and defending national national champion.

Please give some examples where someone, who is being perfectly unbiased, would have criticized crowder yesterday?  Are you serious?  Should she have been bashing his: shot selection? Defense? Help Defence? Rebounding? Hustle?  FT Shooting? Turn Overs?  WTF would you have said to make yourself be unbiased?

Unbiased doesn't mean you spend 50% of the time saying good things and 50% saying bad.  That kind of thinking is why 24 hour news networks have 1 scientist who believes in global warming and one who is paid off to say it isn't happening.  Because they think that is 'unbiased.'
